Welcome to our hidden village, where rural charm, authenticity and nature meet modern comfort. Embrace the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity during your stay at Abod Retreat. Select from our tastefully restored Szekler farmhouses, each unique in design but all meticulously finished to exceed expectations.
Our retreat consists of five houses scattered within the village, combining authentic and traditional village style, with modern comforts, several modern tiny-houses and a converted barn providing reception, breakfast and bar facilities.
Each house has its own character, amenities, and features. Some houses are closer to the reception barn, which is the central point of our retreat, but all within 10 minutes’ walk through the tranquil village of Abud (Székelyabod).
All the traditional houses have one bedroom with a comfortable double bed, a shower room with separate toilette, and a living area featuring a kitchenette and a wood stove. Some have sleeper sofas in the living area, and others have additional accommodation in a converted barn or in adjoining tiny-houses. Their wooden beamed ceilings and wooden porches, and the traditional-style furniture help create a unique atmosphere.
A large, converted barn, with impressive high ceilings accommodates the main reception and offices, which acts as the central point of our retreat. It hosts a coffee bar as well, with indoor and outdoor tables, where we serve breakfast, drinks and snacks. We hold seasonal events in and around the barn, such as open fire cooking sessions, open-air movie nights, pottery / felt, dance and cooking classes, literature evenings and wine / champaign tasting events.
All houses have grassed yards with most having facilities for outdoor cooking and relaxing, in full view of the fields and hills surrounding the village.
周辺エリアの情報
The village is truly behind the forest, nested in a beautiful and hidden valley, surrounded by nature. Access is only by unsurfaced (but maintained) roads through native forests. Most visitors will take the road 4km north from Ghindari (Makfalva), on the main road from Bălăușeri (Balavásár) to Sovata (Szováta), but another road leads north from the village to Miercurea Nirajului (Nyárádszereda).
This isolation has meant that many of the village’s houses retain their traditional forms and some residents still maintain a traditional lifestyle with chickens, horses, sheep and cattle Depending on where they are grazing, cows still walk to and from the fields through the village.
Sovata, the long-established resort that is home to the world’s largest heliothermic lake is nearby, with plenty of activities for the whole family. Praid (Parajd) has the famous salt mine, and nearby Rhédey Castle is the birthplace of Countess Claudia Rhédey, the great-great-great-grandmother of His Majesty King Charles III of Great Britain. Târgu Mureș (Marosvásárhely), Târgu Mureș Transilvania Airport and the citadel of Sighișoara (Segesvár) can all be reached in an hour.
The nearest restaurant is Gerendás, only 6km from Abud on the main road to Sovata, which has a wide variety of restaurants and bars. Miercurea Nirajului, 15km towards Târgu Mureș, also offers hospitality.
A variety of activities are available within and around the village, ranging from horse-riding, wildlife walks, bicycle tours, skiing (for kids) to bread-baking, wine tasting and excursion flight tours from the nearby airfield – varying with the season. Children especially like riding in farm carts and seeing the animals.
