We are two sisters, Matilda and Elisabet, that runs this business together. We work for a living countryside, sustainable business and local networking. Our passion is to bring art, music, food and nature together for unforgettable experiences. The green wave brought our parents from Stockholm to Borkhult in 1980. We grew up in a village with several young families who together had a dream of living in the countryside. It was animals, plant dyeing, felting mixed with politics and midsummer celebrations. After many years of studying and working abroad and in other cities, we have now returned home to the forests of Östergötland. In the fall of 2016, we finally had the opportunity to buy the house of our dreams, the one called Lapphem, and start building on our idea of a cultural center in the countryside. A place for food, music, art and laughter. A place where all parts are equally important and where everyone should feel welcome.

Borkhult is an old village somewhere in the deep forests of Östergötland, surrounded by a scenic landscapes and lakes with crystal clear water. Along Bruksgatan in the village of Borkhult are workers' housing from the 19th century. When the village was moved from one side of the river at the end of the 19th century, the house Lapphem was built from materials that were left over. It was patched (lapp means patch) together, and so the house got its name. It is the parts that make the whole and all parts are equally important! We fill the house with creativity and good food, art and music. In the house there are 4 apartments for rent and in the basement you can find the beautiful restaurant and café.

Borkhult is beautifully located, close to big forests and beautiful lakes with lots of wild animals just around the corner, its common to see elks, deers, eagles, foxes, and if you are realy lucky you will even see the lynx! There are several nature reserves and hiking trails with fantastic nature experiences. We are happy to recommend nice day trips or multi-day trips with an overnight stay in wind shelter. We have canoes and bicycles for rent, and the lakes are of course great for fishing! The community of Åtvidaberg has an interesting history with old mines to visit, there is also nice sights, farm shops and local artists in the area.
