Imagine the perfect Cape Cod vacation: Your family, friends, and pets in a gorgeous farmhouse with a hot tub and sauna, just 2 miles from Sandy Neck Beach.
There’s room for all in 8 bedrooms and 2 lounges with sofa beds. The main kitchen has a pub table for 10. The dining room seats 14, and there's even a 2nd kitchen. Two furnished patios with grills and fire pits look out over an acre of lawn.
This is the Bursley Manor, built in 1670 as West Barnstable farmer John Bursley's family homestead. Today it's been lovingly restored with tasteful and comfortable decor. Its central location makes it the ideal holiday home, with easy access to everything Cape Cod offers.
Book the entire Manor above, or any combination of its 3 separate units:
First there's the Farmhouse, with pond views across scenic 6A. It sleeps 10 in 5 ensuite bedrooms, with cots for kids. There are 2 fireplace lounges, a dining room, and a chef's kitchen. An extra half bath hides the laundry and its private south patio has a shower.
Next, the Captain’s Quarters hosts 7 in a 1700s wing to the Farmhouse. Open the doors between them for easy flow, or close them for privacy. The 1st-floor bedroom has a full bath and walk-in closet. The lounge has the front door, sofa bed, and stairs to the 2nd floor. There, turn right to the laundry, or left to a kids room for 5.
Rear doors in both downstairs rooms access the east patio, shared with the 3rd unit, the Carriage House. This pretty cabin on 2 floors sleeps 4, with a 1st-floor kitchen, lounge, sofa bed, dining nook and bath. The 2nd floor has a full bed, TV lounge, and balcony.
Out back are the hot tub for 7 and FIR sauna for 4, shared by all Manor guests.
Watch Sandy Neck sunsets, kayak Scorton Creek, bike the Canal, or hike anywhere. Whale-watch and deep-sea fish from Barnstable Harbor. Hyannis is 5 miles east; Sandwich is 7 miles west. Provincetown and Falmouth are each an hour's drive. Wherever you're going, the Bursley Manor is the perfect place to start!
Hi, I'm Margaret Rankin, the owner and innkeeper at The Bursley Manor. I'm a journalist and communications professional who traveled the world and lived in a dozen countries before discovering Cape Cod. I knew immediately when I moved here in 2016 that I had found my forever home, and in 2018 I bought the Bursley Manor. So I'm a washashore, and I like nothing better than introducing others to my favorite place. I've wanted to run a B&B at the beach since I was a girl. I'm so happy to be doing it now - minus the breakfast - here on beautiful Cape Cod!
West Barnstable is quaint and uncrowded with a variety of attractions in every direction. The Old Village Store is less than a mile east of the Manor and is famous for its massive breakfast sandwiches and yummy lunch specials, and you can also pick up groceries, sundries, and beach time supplies. Stop in at West Barnstable Tables across the street to watch the artisans at work and then head down to 7G's package store at the intersection of Route 6A and 149. It's in a small shopping center with a gift shop, a hair salon, an acupuncturist and a mechanic. Just a bit further east you'll find hot yoga, the post office and the Cooperative Bank. A mile west of the house on 6a you can join the beach crowd at Amari Italian Ristorante at the mouth of Sandy Neck Road. There's live music there on weekends and some week nights throughout the warm months. Go early - it fills up. Stroll along six miles of pristine and uncrowded Sandy Neck Beach or hike the network of trails that meander through the dunes. Take whale watching trips and deep-sea fishing charters out of Barnstable Harbor. Upon your return you can explore Barnstable Village, with good options for dining including The Dolphin (once a favorite hangout of author Kurt Vonnegut), Mattakeese Wharf on the harbor, The Buttercup Cafe and Nirvana Coffee, as well as Barnstable Tuscan Cuisine. Explore the many beaches in the area - ask me for pet friendly options! Bustling Hyannis is five miles to the east, and the seaside charm of Sandwich is seven miles to the west, with popular mini-golf. Take in the arts and entertainment scene in the LGBTQ+ headquarters of Provincetown, an hour to the north, or explore luxurious and lovely Falmouth, an hour south. Hiking trails are everywhere and Cape Cod boasts some of the most beautiful biking trails nationwide. West Barnstable is the perfect jumping-off point to every attraction Cape Cod has to offer!
