Our home sits on 10 acres of an original homestead that my family dairy-farmed from the '50's to the '70's. If you come in the Summer, you will find an abundance of flowers as this has been a family passion passed down through generations. Our rental rooms are situated in the upper level of our home. No personal family space is on that floor.
The beautiful Wasilla Creek meanders through the property and there is a lovely trail you can walk along beside it. The front porch has a bench for sitting and taking in the beauty of the countryside. We also provide a fire pit with a Solo Stove to enjoy. There is a magnificent view of the valley's iconic mountain, Pioneer Peak, as well as views of the Talkeetna mountain range.
We are in the country but centrally located to many attractions such as Hatcher Pass where you can go on a myriad of hikes and explore an old mining area, Independence Mine. We are also only 4 miles from Palmer town, 15 minutes from Wasilla and a quick hour from the Anchorage airport on a great highway.
Your hosts are Barry and Lila Willardson. Your cohosts are their daughter Sadie and son-in-law Wade who have taken over until June 2026 as Barry and Lila serve a mission for their church in Mexico. Lila was born and raised right on the property as a farmer's daughter and converted her golf-loving husband to the state in 1997. We have have been married since 1981 and have 7 grown children and 17 grandchildren (as of this writing!).
When we were running out of children in our home we decided to convert the upper floor into two lovely guest suites and try out being B&B hosts. That was in 2016 and we have so enjoyed all who have come to stay with us.
We both love Alaska, especially the Matanuska Valley and have a desire to share it with our guests. Any information we can give or questions we can answer, we are happy to do so.
In Barry's former life he was a director of Golf for two different country clubs in Mexico. He still loves golf and indulges when he can. Lila loves to cook, garden, sew, crochet and play with grandkids!
We are located directly off of Fishhook Road which connects with both the Trunk Road and the Glen Highway. Just half a mile away is a very nice gas station and convenience store and the start of a lovely bike trail that goes for miles! We do have bikes in riding condition if you'd like to try it out, at your own risk, of course!
Palmer is a short 4 mile drive away and boasts some wonderful restaurants that we are happy to recommend and review for you. There is also the Reindeer Farm, Musk Ox Farm and Hatcher Pass with an abundance of hiking very nearby.
If glaciers are in your itinerary, the Matanuska Glacier is only 45 minutes away. It requires a reservation and many of our guests have gone and loved the adventure.
