Grand Boulevard, envisioned in the late 19th century, was designed as a scenic loop around the city, completed in 1913, and became a showcase of Detroit’s architectural beauty. Islandview is a scenic neighborhood brimming with historic character, situated about three miles east of Downtown Detroit. For recreation, the Butzel Family Recreation Center and Playground offer community activities and green spaces. The nearby East Grand Boulevard Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, features architectural gems like the El Tovar Apartments, an Art Deco masterpiece built in 1928.
