The Box At The Beach is our personal escape from the fast pace of JHB life and as such we have created a space with a whole lot of comfort and functionality packed into a small space. Whether for a weekend escape or a work trip we trust you will enjoy it as much as we do. The unit is in a complex on Bellamont Rd which is NOT on the beach but set above Umdloti’s beautiful tidal pool and while it is only about 150m back from the beach it is still 900m by road. Access to the unit is controlled remotely via a smart lock (a temporary code will be provided for the duration of your stay). There is 24 hour security access at the gate however should you need assistance I am able to make myself or someone else available.

Both of us love fishing, birding and the outdoors so spend at least one holiday a year at both Kruger Park and Cape Vidal which we consider as close to Heaven as one will find on earth. If we couldn’t live in South Africa, America would be our next home and is our favorite holiday destination outside of SA. We have two AirBnBs of our own so I like to think of us as a considerate guests. We live in Lonehill in Johannesburg (only because of work and because we get enough time to travel regularly).

Umdloti is a beautiful coastal town with only one access road. It is less than 10km from both the airport and the trendy suburb of Umhlanga Rocks. There is a lovely swimming beach, many great restaurants and bars (several featured in Eat Outs Top 500) and an array of activities available in the area (please see our guide book for some ideas). If you are prepared to walk between 700m to 1800m then you can pretty much walk to the beach and all the shops and restaurants in Umdloti (While Umdloti is considered a secure area, as with anywhere in Soth Africa please take care and please do not walk at night). For trips to Umhlanga Rocks, Ballito, Gateway etc. you are able to take an Uber if you do not have your own vehicle.
