I've recently retired and now look forward to hosting guests in my part-of the world. I'm passionate about nature and the western cape in particular as we are surrounded by beautiful mountains and stunning beaches. I enjoy gardening, reading, hiking, travelling and spending time with my family. I enjoy long walks with my husband either on the beach, a walk through the wetlands or a hike in the mountains and always appreciate the beauty of the area. A visit to see the penguins at Boulder's Beach is always an enjoyable and uplifting experience to view them in their protected environement.
A visit to Cape Point Nature Reserve is always on my list of places to visit as it is in close proxcimity to my home in Glen Marine, Simonstown.
I love to travel and have had the opportunity to visit New York City, Cayman Islands, Dubai, Italy and Thailand and hope to visit many more interesting places on my bucket list. I look forward to meeting new people from different corners of the world and hope that you enjoy your visit to the oldest city in South Africa.
Whale watching from Fish Hoek Beach or a meander of approximately 1 km along Jager's Walk which hugs the coastline offers an excellent view of mainly southern right whales during the months of July - October. This is a great spot to sit down on a bench to read a book or just enjoy the view. This area is also more sheltered from our famous and annoying south-easter.
The beach has a small playground for young children and good restaurants from where mom and dad can keep an eye on their children.
Fish Hoek Beach has a shark exclusion net (Shark exclusion barrier is an environmentally responsible form of shark control) which is deployed from around 9am to 5pm daily, weather permitting.
Across the road from South Shore is the Lower Silvermine River Wetlands. This area has well maintained and marked pathways with benches and abundant bird life.
Take a hike up Elsies Peak, this is an easy walk/hike with spectacular views over False Bay.
Our apartment is a 1.4 kilometre walk along new promenade to Kalk Bay, voted by 'Forbes' magazine as one of the 'COOLEST' Neighbourhoods in the world with their trendy shops and a variety of restaurants to suit all pockets and taste.
