Set in the Knysna Forest. Off the grid, away from it all. Excellent bicycle trails and gravel roads. Only 4km on the gravel road from Simola Golf Estate.

This place is utterly gorgeous. Up in the mountains on the edge of Gouna forest, this eco farm is perched on the edge of a deep valley with stunning views. About 15 minutes drive from Knysna its location is far enough to get away from it all, but...

Such a lovely cottage, with special attention to detail. Small things like: welcome note, cold water in the fridge, chocolates, wood ready for braai, games, charged Bluetooth speaker etc. The interior is lovely. The beds are comfy. Loved the...

Our Off-grid Self Catering Cabins, we are completely self sustainable and are not affected by load shedding. Our accomodation will provide you with a restful nights sleep, exquisite star gazing and the most spectacular views. The Wild Edge is the perfect Forest Escape while still being close enough to Knysna, you can switch off from the world and find your Inner Peace. Nature has the power to improve our mood, calm our nerves, and give our health a boost. “For this reason, we chose to not supply Wi-Fi and have no televisions in our units.” First Light is our 3-bed family cabin. It is our pet friendly unit, but by arrangement at an additional cost of R200.00 charged to be paid in cash. Fully equipped kitchen. An awesome fire pit, where you can relax and take in the views, a wonderful new renovated braai area. We supply your first bag of firewood; additional bags can be purchased directly from us. This unit has a lovely open living feel and it's called First Light because it gets the most beautiful sunrise light that filters through the house ... perfect for those early starters who like to sit in the warm sun. Our cabins are away from traffic and distractions, our self-catering accommodation offers the ideal breakaway if you need peace, relaxation and tranquility! We have a communal pool on the premises which offers magnificent sunset views of the Gouna Valley. Wake up with the smell of fresh mountain air, surrounded by forest and mountain views. We welcome you to The Wild Edge, and hope you experience the beauty that surrounds you like we do, one of our favorite things here is waking up to the sound of the birds, the forest below in the valley, it’s sometimes hard to decide what view we love most when the valley gifts us with a spectacular sunset or when the mist rolls in .. you’ll have to let us know which is your favorite.
Zulu and Alison, we are avid bikers and know the area well. We can offer much advice on what routes to take and what to see in the Western Cape, we recommend going on the hike down to the river, it’s a great way to experience the Indigenous Forest that surrounds the farm. Please don’t hesitate to ask us any questions. We hope you enjoy your stay and leave feeling well rested and refreshed.
• The King Edward VII Big Tree (close to the entrance to Diepwalle Forest Station) – a 40 metre tall, 800-year-old Outeniqua yellowwood (Afrocarpus falcatus) that towers above the forest canopy, and that was named for King Edward VII after local conservators hosted a delegation of British Parliamentarians to luncheon here in 1924. A small entry fee is payable for access to this site. • Spitzkop (S33.912, E23.1366). At 918 metres, Spitzkop is the highest accessible viewpoint in the area. From here you’ll enjoy commanding views of the Diepwalle Forest and, if the air is clear enough, sweeping vistas of the length of the Outeniqua Mountains and all the way along the Garden Route – from Mossel Bay, 100 km to the west, to Plettenberg Bay, 30 km to the east. • Kom Se Pad – a winding drive through leafy forests, and a favourite haunt both of the Knysna elephants, and of some of the characters in author Dalene Matthee’s forest novels. Although there’s almost no chance of seeing an actual elephant while you’re here, you will find Rooted in Time sign boards that tell their stories when you drive this route. • The San Ambroso Chapel Museum (S33.969, E23.053). This chapel was built in 1891 to serve the spiritual needs of a group of Italian silk spinners who were brought to the Cape Colony under unfortunate circumstances in a misguided attempt to establish a silk industry in the region. • Diepwalle Forest Station (S33 56.909 E23 09.434), where you’ll find three of the tour’s different way-points: the Forest Legends Museum, a historic Forester’s House, and the Steam Engine Suzie (which once supplied power for sawing the logs – but only on two days of the week!) Access The forest roads on the Rooted in Time route are accessible to passenger cars, and also to 4×4 vehicles.
