We stayed at Mahana House for two nights and absolutely loved it. The cottage was beautiful and incredibly comfortable — the bed even had adjustable firmness settings! The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed, and there was a laundry room where we could wash and dry our clothes for free. The cat was adorable, and for the first time, my husband changed his opinion about cats — he actually liked this one! Randy takes great care of the orchard, and the longans were delicious. We truly appreciated the peaceful surroundings — it was perfect for mindfulness and relaxation. We shared photos on Instagram, and so many of our friends are now planning to visit too! It’s about a 15-minute drive from Hilo town, so having a car is necessary — but totally worth it. This place is truly a dream stay. Highly recommended!

Lovely big room with very comfortable king bed. Spacious bathroom. Heated towel rail - very nice. Beautiful lead light in one of the windows.

If I get an opportunity to return to Kona, I will certainly stay here again.

We chose this place for our family trip to the Big Island after a lot of online research — and it didn’t disappoint. As someone who also runs two hotels in Los Angeles, I’d like to share a few thoughts from a fellow hospitality professional: Fantastic location! Right in the heart of Hilo’s main commercial street. The farmers market is next door, with fresh fruits and veggies, and on weekends, a fun local market with Hawaii-themed goods. Smooth contactless check-in. I booked through Booking.com, and the host messaged me before arrival with the front gate code, room number, room code, and all the check-in details — very efficient. However, guests unfamiliar with this process might feel confused upon arrival if they don’t realize the info is in their inbox or messages. Charming old two-story building. The exterior is nice, with a gravel parking lot behind the property. But what really stood out was the interior design — full of warmth, color, and personality. The wall decor, vintage photos, and little touches give the whole place a cozy, homey vibe. There’s a tiny on-site restaurant with just two tables on the ground floor, serving special breakfast items. Reviews say it’s amazing and must be booked in advance. I stayed for two nights and only saw it open once — clearly a local favorite! Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to try it due to our tight travel schedule. Room 5 was enormous! We booked a queen room, but the beds were so spacious they felt like kings. The linens were top-quality — clean, soft, and super comfortable. Thoughtful details like bedside outlets with USB ports made things very convenient. Large bathroom with separate shower area, soft fluffy towels, and excellent-quality toiletries — clearly chosen with care. These kinds of details speak volumes about the host’s hospitality. The room included local Hawaiian coffee — a great touch! One small suggestion: consider providing reusable cutlery for guests who may be staying longer or prefer dining

The property is around 41 km from University Of Hawaii, Hilo, 44 km from The Pacific Tsunami Museum and 44 km from Lyman Museum & Mission House. Guests can enjoy garden views. A beautiful little hideaway in the town of Volcano. Our accommodation was an attached, one bedroom cabin behind the main house. The other half of the cabinet also had guests, but we didn’t hear them at all. The bed was comfortable, everything was nice and clean, and the huge corner window gave us a fantastic glimpse into the forest! The winding path from the cabin to the front of the house, where we parked our car, was beautiful, as well. parking was a bit tight and it took us a few back and forths to get the car in and out.

A plantation style inn from the 1950s, rooms wrapped around an enclosed courtyard, and I liked that is was off the road, a bit hidden. Room comfortable and clean. Easy check-in process.
