I'm afraid my words will not be enough to express how much I loved my stay here. Kenさん and Yukiさん were extremely welcoming. I enjoyed my conversations with them, learning about Magome-juku, umeshu, and many other things despite my very lacking Japanese skills. When it was time for me to leave and embark on my hike to Tsumago-juku, they ran after me to give me a bottle of iced water to help me with the summer heat. I almost teared up from their kindness. I was on a solo trip for my birthday and they gave me the most memorable moment of my trip. Other things to note about this guesthouse: Room: I'm not sure about the other rooms but I secured the best one. It had an amazing view of Magome-juku. There is only a futon but it was very comfortable. The room is air-conditioned and although not sound-proof, Magome is quiet and you can hear the peaceful sounds of water flowing through the canals at night. Shared spaces: The shared spaces include the dining area, living area, toilets, showers, and an indoor bath. There is also a laundry area which you can use for a small fee (about 500 yen if I'm not mistaken). Reception is not 24/7 and the lights out is at 10pm I think. The shared spaces are not only clean, but they're also beautifully designed! Lots of dried flowers as decoration. Meals: You can opt to have dinner and breakfast here again for a small fee. Dinner is Indian curry and let me just say-- it was delicious! I had the spicy chicken keema, although personally I wish it was a bit spicier. The homemade yogurt was simply amazing. Breakfast is a simple spread of eggs, bread, yogurt, cereals, a variety of fruits, and drinks such as homemade juice and coffee from the coffee shop down the street. This was again very good and I enjoyed it more than I expected. I feel like Magome is a one-time destination because of its size, but I definitely want to come back and stay at sakanomichi again!

Excellent value, incredibly helpful staff, great location, super clean and comfortable.

Lovely apartment in a great location very close to the main shopping and sightseeing areas. The apartment is huge and well stocked with a variety of kitchen appliances so it's possible to cook meals. There's a laundry located off the kitchen and a bathroom with a generous amount of toiletry products located behind that. There's ample heating if needed. Everything was exceptionally clean, well organised and of good quality. There is one huge bedroom upstairs containing 5 beds and a partition blind you can lower if required. There is a toilet upstairs and one downstairs just as you enter the building. Access to the apartment is via a digital lock opened via a code which the host supplies before arrival. I'm usually reluctant to recommend apartments since people have different requirements, likes and dislikes but this place is really lovely and very reasonably priced. I would definitely stay here again if I ever returned to Takayama.

The 4-star ryokan features river views and is 47 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. From the cozy room and relaxing bath to the delicious meals and city tour, everything was exceptional. The family running the ryokan is incredibly attentive, taking care of every detail with warmth, we felt truly welcomed from start to finish.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. Wonderful family run Auberge with beautiful comfy beds overlooking the forest. Lovely baths with gorgeous toiletries. A little out of town but a shuttle is offered for transportation. Fabulous dinner with a very unusual but delicious wine pairings. Breakfasts were delicious.

Conveniently situated in the centre of Takayama, 玄Gen is a recently renovated holiday home, which provides free WiFi, a garden and free private parking for guests who drive. The property was built in 1984 and features air-conditioned accommodation with a terrace. The holiday home has a hot tub and full-day security. The house inside everything are new remodeling and comfortable. Top terrace has nice view. Family and groups are recommended.

The air-conditioned accommodation is 48 km from Gero Station. The property is non-smoking and is situated 500 metres from Fuji Folk Museum. We loved our stay. Excellent location close to station ;enough space for 5 people , stylish design Staff was excellent, very responsive and hospitable.

The owner, like the rest of the locals, were overwhelmingly kind. Kanoko also left us some deer jerky from their hunting, which was absolutely delicious.
