Shiroyamakan was one of my favorite places during my trip to Japan! conveniently located near the bus station and at the beginning of the Shirakawa, it is a perfect place to start a tour of the city, the Ryokan as well as the room are beautiful and very well maintained, overlooking the river; the food was delicious with a creative selection of local ingredients, highly recommend and hope to return soon! We really enjoyed our stay and were amazed by both the kind gestures from our host and the beautiful care that is taken of this home on the hill. There were kind kind touches throughout the guesthouse that we were so appreciative of and the care taken to provide such to guests were so clever and nice. The location is so great for the train station (truly 3 minutes away) and we found a nice restaurant close by on the night we arrived. I would describe the town as sleepy (meaning quiet). The ability to get to the Nakasendo so easily was very much appreciated.
