Can you count the shells? This 16th-century palace is covered in the things. It was built by Don Rodrigo Arias de Maldonado, a knight of the Order of Santiago de Compostela. The symbol of this order is the seashell, and he decided that it’d be rather splendid to have them all over his palace. The result is the magnificent Casa de Conchas, a seashell-studded marvel.

Whether you're inside Alhambra, or looking at it from the outside; it is awe inspiring. Some of the best views of the Alhambra are from the Albaicin neighbourhood. And while the Mirador San Nicholas is the more popular places, head up further to Mirador San Miguel. Admittedly, it is a bit of a climb. But the climb is completely worth it.
