Accademia Gallery

Visitors looking to gaze upon Michelangelo’s "David" should skip the replica at Piazza della Signoria and head straight to the Galleria dell’Academia, where the original can be seen in all its glory. The gallery also houses several other of Michelangelo’s works, plus more Italian greats like Boticelli and Andrea del Sarto.

Definitely book a time and get there early. VERY crowded.

Definitely book a time and get there early. VERY crowded. David is iconic, of course, but with the crowds you don't have much time to appreciate him. The sculpture room is cool. Other than that, lots of reliquies... if you're into those, it's great. If you're not, might want to consider one of the other amazing museums in the city and see the David reproduction outside the Bargello.

If you think Michelangelo is a fabulous sculptor you will love seeing not just David which is magnificent -so much more than photos can convey -but also 5 of his captives sculptures. The difference between them is striking and highlights his enormous range of talent. There are also many examples of medieval and early renaissance paintings and altar pieces in the museum.

If you do nothing else in Florence, go and see Michelangelo’s David. It’s in the Accademia … don’t be fooled by copies that are in various outdoor locations. It’s breathtakingly beautiful. There is also a fascinating section looking at how statues are made and the artwork that hangs there is well presented.

Definitely get the "skip the line" tickets in advance.

Definitely get the "skip the line" tickets in advance. Note that the location of the place (narrow, old, tiny streets) makes the ticket-holders' lines somewhat disorganized and less than efficient. Plan ahead and enjoy the FABULOUS works of art, ESPECIALLY Michelangelo's DAVID!
