The location being close to the station. The staff were helpful and kind, the rooms were comfortable, spacious, clean and modern. Great place to stay.

Location was excellent, walking out the southern exit of Tokuyama station you turn right and you can see the front of the hotel. I was grateful for this as I booked this hotel at short notice needing a cheap place to stay after leaving Fukuoka - if you're visiting a city hosting a sumo tournament, make sure you book any necessary accommodation well in advance. I chose Tokuyama as it was along the shinkansen line and this hotel looked very good for the asking price. It turns out that it is; it was very clean, conveniently located and had a decent breakfast setup. Proximity to the rest of the city seems good but I only went for a quick walk by the nearby waterfront, which was fairly industrialised and not very scenic except for some nice hills across the water, but as a solo traveller only stopping by this wasn't a big concern. The staff I encountered were polite enough and no-nonsense, greeting me formally when I arrived close to 10pm and showing me how to use the check in machine while speaking minimal English. Facilities in the room were clean and tidy; the TV was supposed to show me the wifi details but I couldn't get them to display, nor could I figure out how to access local TV stations. Again, not a big deal as I was mainly only there to sleep. My room was at the back of the hotel so my view was a service deck and the wall of the adjacent building, so potentially not great as a romantic getaway but fine for a safe and comfortable place to sleep.
