We had a wonderful stay at Shiroyamakan. The 4th-5th generation of this family to run the inn are lovely and you can tell that they have a lot of pride and passion for their work and culture. The food was fantastic with mainly homemade and local resources. We especially appreciated the tour by car from the father on the first day to get some pointers for our own exploration. He also helps with taking photos at the observation deck and is all in all a fun and lovely man. Another plus is that in the morning you get a head start to see Shirakawago before most of the tourist busses arrive. Highly recommend staying here on your visit to Shirakawago, it has been our top experience in Japan so far.

We had a fantastic stay. The house was great and the family where such lovely host. If you don’t go there you really miss an opportunity. The whole family made our stay an event to remember. The venue is one of a kind and absolutely worth the 30m trip from Takayama. You really feel like traveling back in time. We experienced how little it takes to have a great childhood and astonishing beautiful environment. We can only recommend the place. Special thanks to Chie to explain us so much and to show us around not to speak of the wonderful food. Special thanks to Satoshi for the smoked fish, so tasty and tender. And a big thank you Kotoha for the tea ceremony. And last but not least to Mei the goat tamer. Thank you all for a unique experience.

There aren’t enough words to recommend this hotel. Every single detail is perfect, starting with the food, the amenities, the peaceful rooms, cleanliness, the beauty of the property, but above everything else is the family who runs it. Their warmth and service is outstanding, you feel like home.

The stay was absolutely delightful. We had the best view of the river and the room was tastefully done. Heated floors during winter is a real luxury.

Luxury ryokan Large room with huge traditional breakfast. The location is further than expect but they do provide shuttle bus. The Onsen is so good the private one no charge and the public one are huge and there are many baths to choose. Amenities are all well prepared. Also provide free ice cream and drinks for relaxation. The noodles on late snack is superb!
