The support staff are so cheerful and kind making such a pleasant atmosphere. If you're nostalgic for old quality which has been cared for over the years and subtly and gently brought into the 21st century, this is what you'll find. The 1970s wooden front doors and fly screens show that things used to be made to last, and a night in the Highbrook takes you back to a time when life had different values. Of course, the chocolate chip cookies have to have a mention. For me, from the UK, Canada Ginger Beer (without artificial sweetners) was just spot on. I was especially glad I had some as it's perfect to sooth the seasickness on a very rough crossing to Canada. And getting up at 4am is very worth it to climb up Dorr Mountain, which I would recommend over Cadillac Mountain if you're into walking; Cadillac Mountain if you like driving. If you order breakfast for 8.30am, you'll be back just in time and can treat yourself to a nice long bath afterwards as check out isn't until 11am.

Located in the centre of downtown Bar Harbor, this motel boasts a seasonal heated outdoor swimming pool is provided. We stayed for 2 nights in another hotel in town. But as that hotel was extremely expensive due to memorial weekend, we switched to the villager motel. We were super happy we did. The room is a good size, the beds comfortable and the location to the restaurants and main attractions in town is unbeatable. The breakfast was good and exceeded our expectations, as there were more choices as we had with hotels during our trip. The receptionist was also friendly and the check in was smooth.
