Maria is an excellent hostess who speaks good english and made us feel very welcome, and always seemed to be on hand. The property is self-contained with everything needed to be self sufficient, with outdoor space for eating. It was very clean and comfortable, and Vila Franca has lots of character. The location was great for Lisbon and the many surrounding attractions in all directions.

We stayed the night after flight before heading to our roadtrip. The room was very comfortable to use, big enough, a lot of places to put our bags, clothes, self-care products etc. Extra 10 points for bathrobes!

Esmerelda, the owner and caretaker, was lovely - friendly and very helpful. The rooms were a good size with a private bathroom and a small fridge. We were given the option of buying a breakfast hamper, which was really good value - 10 Euros. Bucelas was quiet and peaceful.

The breakfast was satisfying. The staff working in the hotel is very kind and hospitable. It was pleasing that the little things were thought out very carefully which I like the most. For example: the hair dryer is more functional than standard hotel hair dryers (stronger motor power, the ability to operate it without constantly holding it down - the ability to use it without pressing your finger). there is an iron and iron table, there is a large umbrella for heavy rain (unfortunatelly the weather was very rainy and windy and we used the large umbrella all through our holiday).

Our experience was very positive - the host explained everything at our check in and was always available. The property is an amazing experience, as you have the feel of the water and reminds of British canals. Despite being in a boathouse the rooms are very spacious and the facilities are excellent - there is nothing extra required. The property is just next to restaurants and a big shopping centre with everything we needed. The public transport is around the corner with electric scooter/ bicycle stands just outside.
