Before our arrival we ran into roadblocks and arrived at the place at 23.30 hrs. Check in slot had already passed but the owner waited for us. Next day he helped us with our desert trip. They also helped us qith booking transport. We left early in de morning but they already had made us coffee. They made sure that the bus stopped at their place for us to board. Such nice people!

The hotel is very rustic and located on a functioning ranch with cows and horses and everything. It is also walking distance from the two grey desert hiking trails. The owner was really friendly and fun to chat with as well as helpful with anything we needed. The food was also some of the best hotel food we’ve had.

We intended to stay at the Cosmos Tatacoa for two nights just to visit the desert, but ended up staying one more, because there is lots do and we felt right at home. The hotel is located on the way to the desert, so it's remote and quiet, but still just a few minutes walk into the town for the restaurants and other amenities. It has a beautiful clean pool, perfect to cool down after an activity in the sun. We've also enjoyed many different options for breakfast. The staff went above and beyond to accomodate us, arranging an incredible tour to the desert with Schneider as well as a relaxing boat ride on the river, washing all our dirty clothes in no time (even if it's not advertised) and making sure we will get to our next destination by getting us the bus tickets and calling a taxi. Our driver, Michael Triviño, told us a lot about the region, the people and Colombia in general (also in English if desired), so if you get the chance, ask at the reception for Maik (or through booking.com if you need a Taxi from Neiva). All in all, we've had a wonderful stay in Villavieja, thanks to the Cosmos Tatacoa.

The staff was really nice. It's located 500 m from the observatory (there are 5 observatories in Tatacoa desert) which is convenient if you want to do the star gazing. It's also 5 min walk from a few restaurants. They offer breakfast, luncb and dinner for a small charge. They rent bikes and offer a tour to the Grey and Red desert which we took as it was nice hearing about the fornations, how the desert (or rather dry tropical forest) came to be. There's a lot of different types of birds in the garden. Since it's in a desert, there's no electricity, meaning there's no fridge, but they have ice available if you want to cool your drinks. There's no wifi which we didn't mind as it was nice to relax and just enkoy the nature. Staff was very helpful with organizing the transport back to Villaviejas. The room was nice and quite spacious, clean, but very hot (which is to be expected in the middle of the desert). There's a fan in the room.

Nice communal sitting area on the terrace and a water filter so you don't have to keep buying bottles.
