If you never been to Kalpitiya, it has a sense of being on the outskirts of civilization. Here you stay nestled among the houses of the locals and share the beach with its fishermen. Beside great kite- and windsurfing (and endless beaches of course), there is not a ton of things to do in Kalpitiya. Scuba diving is good, when there is visibility. Dolphin watching is also a possible activity, but quite an expensive one that last a couple of hours. You won’t find any city center with shops, bars and restaurants near, but you can of course visit other resorts and use their facilities. However you should know that you have a very good restaurant on site if you stay at the Sea Sand Resort! This establishment is made up of about 10 small bungalows with a restaurant. The bungalows are quite basic, but very clean and comfortable and represents good value for money. Within about 10 minutes or more on foot, you can reach surf schools and beaches. From my own experience I can promise that you will be very well taken care off if you chose to stay at Sea Sand Resort.

The host and cook is amazing and he makes delicious meals. The rooms are clean and spacious. The bathroom is partially open air which was really cool. The hammocks and tables made it a peaceful haven. The pool was still being made when I went but it will be a really nice addition. I highly recommend this place.

Roshan, his family and their staff were delightful hosts. Very helpful and organised our Safari at Wilpattu National Park which is only a few minutes drive away and our transfer back to Negombo the next day. We had a beautiful, lunch, dinner and breakfast prepared for us which was some of the best food we ate during our entire trip. The room was clean, attractive and comfortable.

Can go to nearby islands by boat. You can visit wilpattu from lagoon side entrance via a boat.

Great atmosphere, very chilled. The staff were friendly and helpful. This is a great place to lounge and watch the sea. The food was superb. Here as a family and would definitely return.

Everything was absolutely beautiful We couldn’t dream of a better stay to finish our 3 weeks trip in Sri Lanka The property is very peaceful Well maintained and Shibi is very present making sure everything runs smoothly We ate almost every meals there and they were healthy and varied. We recently stayed at Villa Sethawadi and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The place itself is incredibly beautiful, set right on the serene lagoon, offering breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere throughout our entire stay. The service was exceptional—every single staff member went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. They were attentive, friendly, and consistently made us feel genuinely welcomed. One of the highlights of our stay was the food prepared by their amazing chef. After dining at several restaurants in the area, I can confidently say that none matched the quality, taste, or presentation of the meals we enjoyed at Villa Sethawadi. Each dish was expertly crafted, delicious, and beautifully presented. The pool area was inviting and well-maintained, perfect for relaxing after a day of adventures. For kite and windsurfing enthusiasts, Villa Sethawadi is ideally located, allowing easy access directly from the property to the lagoon. A word of caution though—be mindful of the sharp thorns around the area, or better yet, use the hotel's own kite school service, which conveniently takes you by boat to the prime surfing spots on the other side of the lagoon. Overall, our stay at Villa Sethawadi was exceptional. Highly recommended!
