The village is surrounded by high mountains and the houses are from the 1850's made of stones with slate roofs, which makes it so unique and beautiful. We had the house at the highest point (a bit of a climb!! :) but the view is worth it, absolutely breathtaking! The house has 3 apartments and our was spacious and filled with fresh cold air on the ground floor which is a luxury at this time. We loved that the place had its history and Svetlana was very kind to share it with us. We had dinner, tried a few local dishes and they were fantastic! It rained one my second day, but I blitzed some of the museums and galleries, and could have spent a second rainy day doing the same, as there are so many of them. Food and service at Sani was very good. Train journey to Plovdiv good and very cheap. Trail walks good. Asenovgrad is changing rapidly, new buildings generally look really good. I think every Bulgarian must visit the Museum of Vasil Levski - it is kind of mandatory, we are obliged as descendants of those brave men. The other place that charmed us was a restaurant called "Едно време" (Once Upon a Time). Visited for hiking to Balkan Mts, Botev Peak. Enjoyed our stay and the mountain. Imposing Socialist monument at the centre of the town. Nice restaurant at the very center. Nice draft beer and nice surrounding. Other restaurants of Kalofer were closed at the afternoon. We were surprised with the road network of Bulgaria which is in very good condition. Perushtitsa is a small picturesque town, located at the outskirts of Rhodope Mountains. There are several tourist trails that start from the center of the town to the nearby mountains. Perushtitsa played a key part in Bulgarian history during the 1876 uprising against the Ottoman rule and during the Unification of Bulgaria with Eastern Rumelia. There is a museum at the center of the town and several historical places in the city. This is a great place to visit. My son broke my camera, so I have only half memories documented. More to that, mineral water was off on our second day of staying.
