We didn't know much about the East/West German divide so we...
We didn't know much about the East/West German divide so we were nervous about visiting Rostock. However, it was a pleasant, clean, safe town. We walked everywhere. There were nice parks, a wonderful museum and the St Mary's cathedral (first mentioned in 1232) had an astronomical clock that was a feat of engineering and upon striking 12 noon a procession of small wooden figures rotated around the top. We were impressed with the history of the place. The museum had a display about WWII and it was only in German, however we were able to scan large paragraphs of the display to the phone and download a German translation pack to be able to read it. We ate in several little establishments. We always got correct change back from our bills, unlike other places in Europe where you have to be really cautious with your money. Great trip to Warnemunde.

I mean unfortunately like many places in Germany it is full of senior people who want to have it quiet. Although this is ok, there are little options for the young travellers who want to mingle. A bar, a cafe a little bit of music would not hurt anyone but I also have the feeling this is not the place for it. 2-3 days of peace and quiet fulness are therefore totally ok in the are. Beach very close to our apartment, supermarket around the corner, a bakery and cycling store where you can rent bikes and other carriage types. Very child friendly with a playground. Heiligendamm is tiny, just a couple of hotels, a clinic and associated beach holiday retail. No supermarkets etc. But it does have good public transport with the steam narrow gauge railway and good bus service until late at night (slightly earlier Sunday night). I used here as a convenient stopping point to explore this bit of the coast. Rostock is a charming Hanseatic city and this is clearly seen in the city centre and Old Town. There are plenty of redbrick gothic marvels including churches, towers and city gates. A short local train trip away is the completely different seaside resort of Warnemünde with its extensive sandy beach and typical German smart coastal architecture. A bonus of a December visit is the wonderful Christmas market where traditional mulled wine, beer, spirits, sweet and savoury food, and handicraft products are sold from brightly lit and decorated huts.Guest review byPaulMalta - 10.0

Graal-Müritz is an awesome place for family trips. It's a quaint town roughly 30 kms from Rostock and 135 kms from Rügen/Sassnitz. One can enjoy the beautiful beaches or hike in the woods nearby. Lots of families prefer cycling as the town is bike friendly.Guest review bycadip92India - 10.0
