What a treat to stay at this amazing place in the quaint village of Garai, just above the larger town of Durango. Staff is incredible (thanks to Olatz for warm welcome and Irune for delicious breakfast and excellent tips on sites in the area!). Rooms are very cozy, we had amazing views of the mountains. The entire hotel is decorated so tastefully. We highly recommend the Herriko restaurant in town, a short stroll from hotel. Garai is an excellent base to explore the Basque region.

We truly loved it. The house has a beautiful soul and the location is extraordinary - as close to the ocean as it can get. The beach is right next to the building. The owner and the hosts are very friendly, kind and helpful. The area is captivating - a lot of breathtaking sights and soothing nature. The beach was not overly crowded. It was very clean and so was the water. Lovely dogs played with their owners at the beach all the time. Guess Basques love dogs and that love is mutually which is absolutely marvelous. The dogs are uniquely calm and cheerful. The waves are pretty good for surfing. Can't wait to visit Euskadi again.

    BIG YES! We have traveled thru Northern Spain this summer and stayed at four different places so we have enough samples to compare accomodations. This Hotel was absolutely great for the following reasons: you will find fancy looking places, you will find hotels with great location, but it is hard to barely find hotel with soundproof rooms. Hotel Silken had it all, and we looked it the most out of four hotels in Spain. Great location, trendy hotel, soundproof rooms.

    Great location and vista from the rooms towards the river. Easy stroll to old town with a lovely park for a drink and people watching in the evenings. Access to bridges close by to reach other parks of Bilbao. Bilbao was a great city to visit. The room was clean, a good size and staff were friendly ( we appreciated that we were able to check in late morning when we arrived from our flight.) Hope to come back some day.

    Aranxa, the owner, made us extremely welcome. We had a lovely room with a terrace and view of the ocean. The location was perfect for anyone with their own transport. We had use of the garden and kitchen facilities. Within easy reach of fantastic beaches, pretty villages and an amazing bird sanctuary. An extremely relaxing experience and highly recommendable.

    Great location, short trip to Ferry, Very good wifi in room, Max Centre very close for fast food, secure parking for my motorcycle from 11pm to 8am, I still recommend to use locks on your motorcycle like every other hotel. Friendly staff and easy checkin, Bar, breakfast cost 10 euro and well worth it. Room was quiet and large enough for solo or couple.

    The beaches and harbour were lovely.

    The beaches and harbour were lovely. It is well worth taking the gondola across the water to the local cafes and old town area. The promenade is long and makes wonderful walking by the sea. There are all kinds of games and water sports available. Getxo is a Spanish resort. Bars in town offer snacks (pintxo) with beer/wine etc. Restaurants are on the promenade reached by lift. Very little English is spoken except in the restaurants on the promenade.

    Bermeo's main attraction is the harbour area where all the bars & restaurants are located and few steps walk up and you can see everything Bermeo has to offer. The part of Bermeo away from the harbour is mainly residential with tall towers, which we can say is the new extended Bermeo

    The Museo de la Paz is impressive, a visit there cannot miss during the trip. For dinner it is necessary to book a tablet in advance, as per all the cities in the Basque Country. With the Eusko train you can reach in 30 minutes some villages on the coast such as Mundaka and Bermeo, very beautiful places. You can buy the Barik card to travel at a very low price on all kind of public transport in Bizkaya.

It is the best little coastal town with beaches, bakeries, bars, restaurants, parking, grocery and other stores, within walking distance. We stayed at 20 Beheko Kalea and it was a perfect location - the port was about 4 minutes away. Didn't go into the water at the beach, but my grandkids did later this month and they totally loved it. We ate at the bar/restaurants by the port and we also ate at Restaurant Egana. All was great.

    Visited this quaint beach/surfer town in off-season and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very few foreign tourists. A couple nice tapas bars were open and filled with locals. Charming streets and views of the sea. Frequent, reliable train service available to other towns along the coast and all the way to Bilbao.

    There’s a lot to see in Portugalete - plenty of information at the Tourist Office. The nearest beach is just minutes away The hanging bridge (puente Colgante) is an extraordinary piece of engineering and is the most predominant feature here There’s a produce market - fruit/veg/flowers and plants three times a week. There are boat trips too but these only operate at weekends from 15 September We found a great Mexican restaurant in the old town

    Bakio is a terrific beach and surfing resort, but we didn't go for either of those. We went because it's close to Gaztelugatxe and there are some very good restaurants nearby. And a txakoli museum! Check it out!
