New ZealandMy husband and I stayed for a few days and would have liked to stay longer. We felt at home but in paradise. The house is very clean and comfortable, and after all the expensive resorts, we wanted a place with a kitchen and away from people. In addition to having a house and pool all to ourselves, there is a barbecue and a very nice space to spend the day. My highlight was definitely watching the sunset from the balcony, and the host was very friendly and took care of every detail to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect, right in front of the sea and within walking distance of town. We would definitely stay here again.

The location is like a jungle in fairy tale, the river with its flow changing the direction was something I had never seen before. The activities the lodge offered and the meals, hospitality.... You must go there to believe it's true!

When we got inside, we had a very warm welcome from the staff and were treated intimately and personally, a trend which continued throughout our stay. Each day was as relaxing or adventurous as we wished, with easy to engage with daily activities or the ability to stay secluded in our private villa. The staff were all extremely polite and helpful, and made every effort so we could stay unstressed. The food was excellent, especially the integration of local crops in innovative new ways such as cassava mash. Being able to select ahead of time was an efficient way of not having to think later in the day. Our villa was kept in great condition by staff, and we were supplied with everything we needed to be comfortable. Situated on a hill (400m), where a 4WD is required this place is breathtaking. At normal beach excursions organized in Denarau, we were always annoyed by loud music but here no nois and there are lovely and friendly two dogs and a cat. Savusavu is a great location for a peaceful holiday, giving to a more traditional Fijian experience with less resorts on the island. The market is a great for self catering or just absorbing the atmosphere, especially early on Sat when the fish market is there too. The people are very friendly and fun to be around, as you walk down the street you are constantly greeted warmly with Bula! Definitely make the effort to venture across to Savusavu—it’s far more picturesque than Fiji’s main island. Getting around is a breeze: you can hop on local buses, grab a taxi, or simply wave down a friendly local for a ride (just agree on the fare beforehand). The people are incredibly welcoming and helpful—they’ll happily arrange any activity you fancy, and you’ll feel the rich Fijian culture everywhere. We even attended a Sunday singing service in the local church—it was breathtaking to hear the harmonies and feel the community spirit firsthand. I have much preferred staying in the Mamanuca Island chain - cuter islands, more of a holiday feel and better snorkelling than what we experienced here.
