The house and its grounds are just beautiful and every inch has been thoughtfully decorated with the addition of carefully curated artwork, ornaments and lighting. Arrival was very smooth and we were shown around the villa and then to our room. We stayed in Le Vue which is right at the top of the house and so benefits from having 4 walls of magnificent windows. The room was light and airy and from the bed you could look out on to the bay and see the ebb and flow of the tide (I highly recommend spend the night with all the blinds up and the doors open to witness the sunrise and to listen to the waves and the hypnotising frog chorus) The hotel has an amazingly well equip kitchen that guests are welcome to use to cook their own food (or a chef can be provided on request) There is also an honesty policy so you can help your self to drinks and just tally what you have had. There is a comfy lounge area and my favourite a dark and cosy library with laddered shelf’s. The garden has a natural pool, sauna and sunbathing areas and a sweet little gate leads straight out on to the beach. I highly recommend heading to the beach and walking left to the old port where you will happen across the cutest fishing shack style restaurant which serves up amazing food. The lads there were super friendly and spoke great English. Nothing is too much trouble for Karin and her team and they really do encourage you to treat villa Tosca as a home from home. We enjoyed walking on the beach, strolling round the interesting streets in town, eating at the restaurants and taking the boat across to Cap du Ferrett. It is a clean, well looked after town with a buzz to it. The gardens are well worth a stroll with a climb up the Belvedere tower for a view. At the Cap du Ferrett we walked along the beach to the oyster shacks and had a delicious feast of oysters and prawns. Cap Ferret still has some degree of old-world charm as a sea-side resort, and has not been over-developed. Working fisherman's huts, and holiday beach shacks can still be found, and it looks very much as I remembered it on my first visit 20 years ago. To get to it you have a 40 minute drive around the bay - past some crowded beach parks and caravan parks - or you take the ferry from Arcachon, which is smarter but much more developed as a resort. Lege Cap Ferret is a very quiet town that gives great access to all the beaches, towns and restaurants in the area. If you stay here you will find it very peaceful, but you will need a car to access everything else. We went in the last week of August, the traffic was OK, and parking seemed easy everywhere. In our time we visited all the major beaches and towns - hired bikes - and Bordeaux was also easy to drive into. What’s not to like?!
What’s not to like?! In addition to wonderful weather it’s got everything for a grown-up few days away - the views around le Bassin, the bars and restaurants, the local shops (from fashion to locally made artisan goods), the proximity to Cap Ferret, Arcachon and so on - and all within an environment where you feel safe all the time. - even if you’ve had a couple of beers. Le Teich is an excellent base.
Le Teich is an excellent base. Birdwatching is the obvious attraction, but the whole area is great for cycling and just chilling out. A bike ride to Gujan-Mestras oyster farms is a highlight. It's 15 minutes to Arcachon by train, and there's a network of buses too.Guest review byHowardIreland - 8.0

Arès is certainly not the smartest town in Cap Ferret but it is the largest and has a good selection of restaurants and other services, including a large Leclerc on the outskirts. The more appealing parts of Cap Ferret are no more than 30m away by car and it is connected to the extensive cycle network that covers the whole area. We loved the town, we enjoyed the variety of shops and restaurants. The beach was awesome. We visited Dune Pilat, climbed to the top and were astounded by the views.
