FAQs about hotels in Normandy
Remembering the Past, Relishing the Present
Bordered by the English Channel, Normandy is a sleepy French region that sees many visitors arrive via its major seaports – Cherbourg, Dieppe, Le Havre and Ouistreham.
Between these last 2 is Deauville, home to some of the most exclusive Normandy hotels by the beach. Its pristine sands and international film festival have secured its prestige for the glitterati. The surrounding region of Calvados is famous for its cider and brandy, and Normandy also home to camembert cheese.
Calvados was also the site of the Allied landings and Booking.com has a great range of B&Bs and hotels near D-Day beaches. Caen, the Normandy capital, is a lovely city that houses the Memorial for Peace, a museum detailing the effects of conflict, and World War II in particular. North of here in Bénouville is Pegasus Bridge, while the D-Day beaches span from Ouistreham to Arromanches, home to another of Normandy’s WWII museums.
Inland is the Bayeux tapestry, a huge, hand-stitched depiction of the Norman conquest of England. Off the region’s western shores are the Channel Islands, while at its south-west corner are Avranches and nearby Mont Saint-Michel, accessed via a causeway.
Other Normandy attractions include Rouen, a historic city with colourful, half-timbered houses and an archaeology museum housing finds from the Roman amphitheatre down the Seine River in Lillebonne.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 473 reviewsLooking for the world of Petit Nicolas, when all of good old France wandered to the sea during les grandes vacances? Or where you lean out of the tiny window of your cosy tiny house on a full moon night, catching the silhouette of a Norman knight riding by the rolling hills? Do you want your child to tell stories like, "once we camped at a lake with a small island where the king of the sheep lives"? Go no further.Guest review byZoltan BalazsBelgium

The staff were very friendly and always on hand if you needed anything. The pool area was perfect. Children are only allowed in at certain times so great if you were without children. But if you do have children like us, they loved the pool! The room was spacious with a separate twin room within the room perfect for our small family. Cute, quaint little town for a couple days. I had never heard of it before this trip, wasn't expecting to like it so much. Walking the historic streets, browsing the shopping, the old Wooden church, it was a great couple days.Guest review byRay SavardaUnited States - 6.0

I was in Deauville for the Bridge Festival, so chose the location for that reason. However, I would say that some of the restaurants in Deauville are not great value or quality and prefer to eat in Trouville where there is better choice and value in my opinion. It is all down to personal taste, obviously many wealthy Parisians and foreign visitors like to be in Deauville, for the beach and top hotels. Relative to Trouville it is quite smart, but Trouville is more lively and overall more interesting. Next time, I will stay in Trouville although it is more of a walk to the casino.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We arrived in late afternoon at hotel and toured island first in evening hours - great idea as less crowded and still light enough to wander the streets and alleys. Toured the abbey the next morning - around 11. Already getting crowded - should have started earlier. But well organized and flows well within the Abbey. Well worth the visit to see this unique and historic structure - magical.Guest review byPeterUnited States - 10.0

Stay in good hotel, explore other towns around.
Stay in good hotel, explore other towns around. Beside the great rock this town failed in management. The casino is old and dirty, kebab and other american food brakes the charm. Typical case of.... The good old times. Local politics , bring back the charm..... and please clean the fuck up! STay one or two days in hotel there as great location to explore around!Guest review byLaurentBelgium - 10.0
Have been to Dieppe many times previously and love it.
Have been to Dieppe many times previously and love it. Lovely views, next to the harbour and sea, great choice of restaurants, although we are addicted to Le Tout Va Bien, which suits us perfectly. The only downside at the moment is that the main bridge for easy access to the sea front and harbour is closed. I gather work is 10 months behind schedule, and the tortuous diversion for motorists is very poorly signposted..:(Guest review byIanUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Cherbourg is dominated by a huge harbour where your ferry comes in. The town itself is long from east to west, spreading out from the harbour. From north to south it is much smaller. The harbour area and the promenades are worth walking around and the central area at the Place Charles de Gaulle is the best area to relax in. It's also the ideal town from which to see other nearby attractions, such as a D-Day beach, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont-St-Michel, all of which I visited. One word of warning - the French railway service isn't the best. The trains are subjected to many cancellations and delays and the ticket machines in the stations frequently refuse to give you a ticket! Railway problems aside, the town of Cherbourg and other parts of Normandy are worth a holiday and I'm so glad I went.Guest review byCLIVEUnited Kingdom
