We brought our three dogs with us, which was no problem, but were told that we could not bring them in the breakfast room (perfectly understandable for us) when we booked, so we did not book the breakfast. Upon arrival we were asked if we wanted breakfast the day after as well: we indicated that we had the dogs with us and the friendly employee told us that indeed the breakfast room was not possible, but we could take breakfast in the bar/salon. After a good sleep we went to the bar/salon in the morning and another friendly employee even set the table for us and brought water for the dogs, an excellent service! The breakfast itself was also outstanding with a large choice, so everyone will have something to their liking. Furthermore, the hotel is located around at an excellent spot in the city center and the possibility to reserve a parking space was great. Because we had a car we used Reims as a base and alternated between trips into the surrounding area and days sightseeing in Reims. If we hadn't been doing that, then 2 full days in Reims would probably be enough. Although some museums are closed on certain days so it is worth making sure your days suit your itinerary for the major sites. An extraordinary town overflowing with mediaeval buildings so very picturesque. Many bars and restaurants. A fabulous Musee d'Art Moderne, unexpectedly good! It is a quiet village but has a large number of small champagne houses offering tasting opportunities. It does not have a large selection of restaurants but does have a great delicatessen offering sharing platters and great wine. You can easily walk to Épernay and there is a train service to Reims. This was just a one night stopover on our way back to Calais but the accommodation and facilities were superb and greatly exceeded our expectations. Les Riceys is actually a group of three small villages combined, parts of it dating to the 13th century, but there are lovely old buildings from different times, including chateaux. In addition to being given a wonderful welcome by the host and being made so comfortable - Saint-Julien-les-Villas is a residential area of Troyes a few minutes drive from the centre (or a 30 minute stroll) and, so it is a good place to stay if you want peace and quiet. An important city since Roman times, Reims has been the site of many historic events. It was the place where for 1000 years French kings were annointed, world wars were fought, and the WWII surrender was signed. Significantly damaged in WWI, it has been rebuilt, but lost a lot of its character. The city is still beautiful, but not as evocative as it must have been. The iconic cathedral in the city centre, and the basilica in its south (along with the adjacent St Remi museum) are definitely worth visiting, as are the local champagne caves.
