This is the place to unwind, take in the amazing 360 scenery. Theres loads to do, walks, hike, rent bikes, kayaks, paddle boarding or just sit and watch the world go by. I ate at the restaurant Id booked The Glaramara hotel, they prepare exceptional food, my time was taken with hikes up Herons Pike, Scafell Pike and a good long walk around the Derwent lake. It’s a place that asks for your full attention and rewards it with a deep sense of peace. For me, Borrowdale isn't about what you do, but about what you feel—a sense of solitude and connection to something wild and enduring. I left feeling quite emotional and cant wait to return.Guest review byPatrick_AlexanderUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Applethwaite is a hamlet pressed against a hill at an elevation of some 60m above Keswick and Derwent Water. It is only a 30-40 minute stroll to the many cosy pubs in Keswick for a drink or a hearty meal. Keswick is a nice place with many outdoor and mountaineering shops — a clear mark of what the visitor can expect from the surrounding countryside. From Keswick one can take double-decker coaches running to many places and lakes further afield. We fell in love with the Borrowdale valley S of Derwent Water, Grassmere, Buttermere, Langdale, Ullswater…Guest review byFilipNetherlands - 8.0

Keswick is a beautiful laid back town with lovely restaurants and coffee shops. Fantastic hiking on its door step and great facilities for a small town. We went to the theatre and had a wonderful evening. What makes Keswick so charming is the people, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Coming from Ireland where people generally are very friendly it was refreshing to see a similar outlook amongst the locals. It is obviously a dog lovers paradise and it attracts a lovely visitor- everyone was so nice, perhaps the atmosphere in the town contributed to this- certainly no larger louts about so I think the town has got the mix just right- we like to visit new places but we will certainly make an exception and come back to KeswickGuest review byAndyIreland - 10.0
Ideal for fell walking at all levels.
Ideal for fell walking at all levels. Some great hikes in the area such as Glaramara and Dale Head. Buy the Cicerone guide to find out more. One piece of advice is to do your research thoroughly before setting out. Take a map and compass, or have your route all planned on a GPS app. Some of the paths suddenly fork and if you take the wrong one, you can waste a lot of time and effort getting back on track. They generally don't have helpful fingerposts in the Lake District.Guest review byGeoffreyUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Portinscale is ideally situated on the shores of Derwent...
Portinscale is ideally situated on the shores of Derwent Water with fantasic views of the lake and the fells. It is perfectly situated for a short walk into Keswick with all its facilities and public transport for access to the rest of the Lake District, or you can take the launch across the lake or catch the bus. From Portinscale there is easy access to walk around the lake and there are 2 Marinas for boating, canoeing and paddle boarding. The café is and lovely and covers a full range of meals at reasonable prices. It also sells a few essential catering essentials. There is a pub and hotel in the village which both serve food. The staff are all very friendly but as at April 24 both establishments require investment in facilities and food quality. The village of Braithwaite is also close , it has a small shop for provisions with 2 great pubs/hotels that are very popular for food.Guest review byElizabethUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Easy to get to shops in Keswick.
Easy to get to shops in Keswick. Good food at the Lakes Distillery and Chesters near Ambleside. Good low level walks around Grasmere. A visit to the gingerbread shop in Grasmere is a must but watch for the traffic wardens if parking outsideGuest review byAnonymous - 8.0

If you are into hiking and hill walking this is a good place to be ! The views are splendid and the street market is a hive of activity. The Pencil Museum is well worth a visit as are some of the historic mining sites. Boat trips on Derwent Water are available as a round trip or a Ferry service. Away from the main roads some roads are quite narrow and walkers and drivers need to be careful and considerate.Guest review byThomasUnited Kingdom
