FAQs about hotels in England

The Small Country with Big Appeal

For a relatively small country, England certainly manages to pack in a wealth of tourist attractions, from Land’s End all the way to Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Words can’t do justice to the capital London - an exciting mix of famous sights, royalty and vibrant life. Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are fabulous cities that have emerged from their industrial past to be cutting-edge centres of culture.

Newcastle, Leeds and Bristol are well known for their buzzy music scene, while sedate Oxford and Cambridge are famous for their universities and punting. Stately York still maintains its city walls and Windsor has the wonderful castle where the Queen often resides.

Sheffield and Derby border the magnificent Peak District, while the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are close to Blackpool, one of England’s favourite beach destinations. Other very popular beaches are in Brighton, Eastbourne, Torquay and Scarborough.

With a beautifully rugged coastline, mystical Cornwall has England hotels in the country, as do the Cotswolds where stone houses line picturesque villages. The Georgian spa cities of Bath and Harrogate also have impressive stone architecture.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what England has to offer, but wherever you visit, you can be sure that Booking.com has a fantastic range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in England to choose from.

Food quality was great. Bit more variety on the evening meals would help for those staying longer than 4 days but that is being picky. Fantastic breakfast - if there is something you want but cannot find on the buffet then ask the chefs - all very helpful. The spa was amazing and great for a rainy day. Location is perfect for walks and local communities. Room was cozy and comfortable. For 6 days we could have done with booking a bigger room - it is worth checking the options for longer stays - but the bed was super comfy and we wish we'd bought the robes.

A City filled with energy and spirit.

A City filled with energy and spirit. So much to explore and to do. From a traditional Fish-Chips & Pint on Starnd street's oldest building to Hop-On-Off Bus ride, to a fantastic autumn monring walk to Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Big Ben. Enjoy Covent Gardens local culture and luxury shopping in Regent, Oxford and Bond streets. Come with empty suitcases, cause you will leave with them full. Heathrow needs help and prayer.

Manchester is a good city due to its vibrant culture, rich history, and dynamic nightlife, combined with a more affordable cost of living compared to London. It's also a hub for sports, particularly football, and has a strong creative and media industry, along with a diverse and friendly community. Culture and entertainment Music: Manchester has a legendary and influential music scene, having launched bands like Oasis and The Smiths. There are many live music venues and a plethora of clubs. Arts: The city offers world-class museums, art galleries, and theaters, including the Manchester Art Gallery and the Royal Exchange Theatre. Nightlife: Manchester has a buzzing nightlife with options for every taste, from traditional clubs to the hipster bars and restaurants of the Northern Quarter. Festivals: The city hosts a packed calendar of events and festivals, such as the Manchester International Festival and the Manchester Christmas Markets. History and heritage Industrial past: As a key city in the Industrial Revolution, Manchester has a rich history reflected in its architecture and heritage sites like the Museum of Science and Industry. Progressive spirit: The city's history also includes significant events in the fight for democracy, like the Peterloo Massacre, and its role in queer history. Modern reinvention: It has successfully reinvented itself from its industrial past into a modern and trendsetting city.

I love this city more than any other in the world.

I love this city more than any other in the world. People so friendly, they make this place what it is. Loads of places to go out, whether that's eating out or going to bar, club or anything else you fancy, this place has it all. Small local boozers with characters where everyone is welcome. I've seen women walking on their own past midnight,so I think it's relatively safe. I know everywhere has its problems as Liverpool has, but I can honestly say, I have been coming here for nearly fifty years and over the years I've brought my family, I've been here with mates and I've travelled alone so many times, walked the streets till early hours sometimes after falling out of some bar or other, and I have never ONCE had any problems in Liverpool, thank you Liverpool for making this city so special.

Blackpool is always windy and rainy.

Blackpool is always windy and rainy. Illuminations are very much the same most years but still great to see. Lots of rubbish blowing around. Food places such as papas chippy and wetherspoons long queues to access. Blackpool is easy to get around walking, tram, buses or taxis. We choose to use the tram and walk to see the illuminations.

Really enjoyed that you could walk everywhere easily. Plenty of nice restaurants for an evening meal, shops were good. A classic tour around St. James Park was well worth the visit, very enjoyable. Went on the Metro to the coastal town of Tynemouth, again, well worth a visit. We also went to the theatre and saw a fabulous show. Would highly recommend Newcastle for a mid week break.

One of the most relaxed cities in England and one of my favourites. The centre near the historical harbour has bars, arts centres and boats. Across the river, there's a museum, boats, and a steam train. If you are visiting from outside the UK, after London and Edinburgh, Bristol should be a serious choice.
