Helensburgh is a nice little town on the Firth of Clyde, so it has a pretty waterfront and a seaside feel, although it is on a river. It is ideal in many ways, as the trains go frequently to Glasgow and even to Edinburgh if you are so inclined. But it is also very near Loch Lomond, only 20 minutes drive and also ideally placed to drive around the peninsulas and lochs of Argyll and Bute. We managed a day trip to Bute to see Mount Stuart which was great, although a long drive, but worth it. There are some very good restaurants in Helensburgh, we liked La Barca Spanish restaurant and also the Vintage Inn pub The Commodore. The pavements are flat and well maintained, great for pushing wheelchairs(like us) or buggies.Guest review byAnonymousUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Needs more info on parking facilities for guests.
Needs more info on parking facilities for guests. We managed to park across the road from the pub but weren't sure if we could park outside the rooms or not. Breakfast was disappointing in the pub. Wished we had had more time to check out the area but our ferry was delayed so we arrived late. To their credit the chef waiting for us to arrive so we could have an evening meal though.Guest review byDawnUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This is my hometown and I'd brought some friends up from Bristol to do a tour of Scotland starting from here. They found the scenery to be amazing. The town has Rennie Macintosh, Hill House to visit and has also got a lovely promenade to walk and look out on the Firth of Clyde. It's ideally positioned as it has 2 train stations, the lower one to Glasgow/ Edinburgh and the upper one for the West Highland railway. Driving as we were, you are only over the hill to Loch Lomond, The Trossachs, the Highlands or Stirling and Falkirk beyond. Or head up Loch Long, The Rest and Be Thankful to Inverary and the west coast and Highlands. There are good local restaurants to eat at and of course Dino's ice cream!Guest review byElaineUnited Kingdom - 6.0
Rhu is a cute little village on the water.
Rhu is a cute little village on the water. I booked here because I couldn't get into Luss, and after visiting Luss, I'm glad we didn't stay there as it was extremely busy. Rhu is quiet and accessible to Glasgow.Guest review byMeredithAustralia - 10.0

The Anchor was clean and welcoming. the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Food was tasty and freshly cooked. We did not bother to go anywhere else to eat. It is a good location for exploring the area around Loch Lomond.Guest review bySueUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Lovely place to visit.
Lovely place to visit. The civic centre was great with a lovely cafe with great food. We ate at an Indian restaurant on the seafront which was great value for money and lovely food. We also had tea and cake at the sugar boat which was nice. We drove around by car which was fine. We also used the taxi service which was good value for money and efficient.Guest review byChristineUnited Kingdom - 8.0

My trip was purely social with engagements in Helensburgh and at local rugby club, so I did not go to any visitor attractions or restaurants over a wet and windy winter weekend even if sun shone on Sunday morning. Take care over crossing road intersections and parking on both sides of the streets in the town-both require driver alertness and awareness ..Guest review byEWENUnited Kingdom - 8.0

I enjoyed the road from Tarbet to Garelochhead and our stay at the Anchor Inn. The spot may not be the nicest but our evening/night was really nice staying at the Anchor Inn after a good walk in the Highlands.Guest review byVéroniqueFrance
