Contrasting with "upmarket" chain hotels I've stayed in recently it was great - the TV was an ACTUAL smart TV which was NOT the case in a Voco or a holiday Inn express. The breakfast was excellent and the restaurant belonging to the property serves first class cuisine and reasonably priced

Wells is a lovely place to visit and steeped in history. The Cathedral is the focal point but I thought the admission fee was too high compared to other cathedrals. The city has ambassadors during the summer to assist tourists. There are lots of nice food outlets and shops. Wells is close to other attractions in Somerset; Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury etc.

    Bridgwater is a sad place.

Bridgwater is a sad place. The river trade, upon which its very existence depends, is gone and Bridgwater is not developing a replacement economy. The few shops still open are quiet, charity shops or selling vapes or other useless trash. A depressing place to visit. I stopped here to find Somerset wicker basket sellers. They've gone online!

The Cinema great with excellent Downton Abbey Film at reasonable price. Evening meals found Queens Heat just off off main square offered good food and was not noisey. Enjoyed also Fish & chips supper on The Parade just around corner. Railway trip on steam train to Watchet was nice and return on bus convenient. Sort bus trip to Porlock Weir Harbour plus drik in local Pub was most enjoyable. At this time of year bus services were limited as we had no car but in Summer the Buses to Ilfracombe etc would have been good to try

I feel that the high street has been combined with the Clarks village extremely well. I also thought the high street was very attractive with the flower arrangements and a good collection of shops. It seemed to be a thriving high street. We ate at the Bear Inn, which I would definitely recommend to other travellers, excellent food and extremely friendly staff.

Liked · EXCEPTIONALLY PEACEFUL AND CLEAN ACCOMMODATION. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. From the moment we we arrived at Maplestone we were made to feel really welcome. Alan showed us to our room and made us a pot of tea with cake and sat with us in the garden, great service. Alan is an excellent host with a friendly, professional manner with great local knowledge. The accommodation is very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. Exceptional breakfast was plentiful and delicious with great choice. The property has a beautiful, quiet garden with tables and chairs to relax in. Would definitely stay again. Well done Alan and thank you for your making us feel so welcome.
