The decor looked modern but not minimalist. The selection of artwork was thought provoking and color schemes were restful,; mostly smokey neutrals. The first thing I did was to pull out my iPad, so I could send photos to friends and family, the 2nd thing I did was to pull out my receipt, because I believed I had spent much less than I should have for such a grand hotel. We had just come in from York, where I had spent enough money to keep referring to it as “our splurge hotel”. The Dakota was exactly £10 more than half (yes, half) the cost of the hotel in York. Even if there were nothing to do in Newcastle, but there is, it would be worth going, just to stay in this spotlessly clean and hospitable hotel.. the staff was world class. I hope Dakota becomes a big player in the hospitality business, because I would be a loyal customer.

The staff were all amazing and very friendly with our dog - even bringing her a sausage at breakfast in the mornings. The food was absolutely delicious. A great choice of continental and cooked food on offer at breakfast. We ate our evening meals there both nights as well - delicious. The room was clean, it has a kettle with a tea tray (including biscuits and a bottle of water). No carpet in the room but that is better with it being dog friendly. No fridge, but we had brought a mini one with us for medication and our dogs food. Will definitely look to stay there again next time we are up that way.

This was a great value. It was a very inexpensive, but clean, cozy, and comfortable room. It was in a great location and I got to walk along the promenade and the beach to see great views of the North Sea. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and welcoming and recommended a great fish and chips place for dinner.

The location is very good, super close to the central station, the Castle and the bridges. The breakfast is very complete, good value for money. The best is the staff, they are extremelly welcoming, nice and helpful. I must do a highlight to Rubén, who provided tons of turistic information and suggestions. We came for the Mercury Awards 2025 and had a great evening with a lovely, good natured local audience. People in South Shield is very friendly and I have good experiences. The building and architechture is interesting. We love Chinese food at Phoenix restaurant in China town Newcastle and Frozen Yogurt in Grainger Market. Take away from Crown of India are fantastic food on Ocean Road. There are free 3 hours parking which is very helpful and convenient for tourists. I would have liked to have given a better review but unfortunately we had an issue with a faulty oven & hob. Although the electrician attended he was unable to rectify the issue concluding a new oven was required. This left us with only the hob which also tripped out if using more than one ring. Gordon offered us a full refund if we booked out after one night. However this was not acceptable as we had events planned for Saturday. Also, as we had planned to self cater we had bought in food which was wasted and we had to dine out with unexpected expenditure. i.e Friday evening & Saturday evening. Gordon offered a reduction of £100.00 which we thought reasonable, & accepted. We appreciate Gordon would have no control over the oven issue & being weekend there was little that could be achieved until working weekday.

The people were lovely and friendly.

The people were lovely and friendly. But, this is not and upmarket place to stay. It was full of drunks and druggies (even the taxi driver and the electrician said this) It was just like some of the worst council estates we have here in the UK. I didn't go out at night with the dog because of this. There were quite a few pit bulls around, including the one upstairs. The property itself was ok and comfortable, but left a lot to be desired. The cutlery drawer was at ground level, there were slugs on the worktop every other morning and the fridge was awkward to open - you had to shut the kitchen door to get into it! But the owner was helpful and friendly.
