Someone from the hotel, took the trouble to call me after I'd booked to let me know that the area could be a bit noisy on a Friday night, she was concerned because we were travelling with a young baby, we didn't mind and didn't experience any noise, but it was extremely good of her to check, excellent customer service.

We didn’t expect to love Kilkenny this much.
We didn’t expect to love Kilkenny this much. Honestly, we thought it might just be a quick stop between Dublin and Dingle — but wow, this city had other plans. We stayed at the Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel, which turned out to be right in the heart of everything (and dangerously close to several very good pubs). The staff were friendly, the room was great, and the downstairs bar made it a little too easy to “just pop in for one.” The castle is straight out of a storybook, St. Canice’s Cathedral has a tower climb that will either make you feel brave or slightly ridiculous (worth it either way), and Rothe House and the Medieval Mile Museum make history feel alive and oddly relatable. Everywhere we turned there was something beautiful, old, or both. And the pubs — good grief. Every night turned into “just one more pint,” with live music, friendly locals, and that cozy Irish magic that makes you forget what time it is. Kilkenny has this perfect mix of history, charm, and fun. It’s walkable, welcoming, and just the right size to feel like you really got to know it. We left wishing we’d stayed longer — and promising we’ll be back (ideally with stronger pub stamina).Guest review byBradUnited States - 10.0

Inistioge was charming. We ventured into the village for supplies and the little store had everything. The pub staff were friendly, but you need to go early if you’re looking for a meal. It’s very busy. Our party wasn’t a walking party as it included two elderly ladies, but they loved the views from the benches. There is ample opportunity to walk and some lovely trails. Such a beautiful place you can rent bikes to go along the canal also boat trip! Beautiful chipper fab pubs and just beautiful scenery if your looking for a relaxing night away this is it. The staff in water side guest house are absolutely lovely & so helpful! Also the breakfast is amazing. Freshford is a typical country village with not too much going on. That being said, we found the chip shop, "The Brennan Sisters" food to be super - too good - we ended up eating from it every night! We didnt go into the local pubs as after days sightseeing, we just wanted to chill. The Church in the village was beautiful too. If you are looking for an escape into the countryside, this is the perfect place. Our host, Mary, was so sweet and eager to accommodate. Room was grand and I was in love with the claw foot tub 😍. The property is beautiful with 4 horses and a cat (there could be more I did not discover) and a cute little walking path to the river. The food!!! Yes. Thomastown was an excellent base for visiting sites in Kilkenny, Dunbrody Famine Ship at New Ross, Waterford Crystal Factory, Hook Lighthouse among others. There are a number of closer places of interest such as Jerpoint Abbey.
