Very stylish hotel, friendly staff. I received an upgrade to a room with a sea view, which I appreciated very much! Unfortunately the weather was not great, so I could not really make use of the beach club.

We found the "Albergo" absolutely perfect for so many reasons. The people running the place are so friendly and extremely helpful. The location is stunning, there is direct access to the sea, where the umbrella and beach chairs are included for the people staying at the hotel. Porto Santo Stefano is just next door and the location is perfect for enjoying all the beaches around the Argentario.

Located high up with a beautiful view of the sea. Being high up meant that you had a steep walk down to the seafront and a steep climb back but that provided very good exercise. The host was very helpful with information about how to park and get into the property. It also had a lift

FAQs about hotels in Argentario

Tuscany's Lush Anchored Island

Linked to the mainland through 2 strips of land built thanks to the skills of sea currents and the Albegna River, Monte Argentario is an island-peninsula in southern Tuscany. Its rugged landscape is covered with lush vegetation and blessed with beautiful beaches, lagoons, and picturesque towns.

During Roman times, it was given to a family that had lent money to the state, which is probably the origin of its name: the Latin word ‘Arganterii’ means ‘money lender’. Spain acquired it in the late 16th century, handing it over to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany after Napoleon’s defeat.

The main town is Porto Santo Stefano, a charming mix between a fishing village and a modern resort. It spans between the sea and the steep slopes, creating a typical Italian postcard. Ferries leave every day for the Tuscan Archipelago from its pier, while some of the best Monte Argentario luxury hotels are located here.

The smaller Porto Ercole still keeps the charms of medieval times, with walls and fortresses, while Orbetello is a picturesque town located in the central strip of land and surrounded by lagoons.

Orbetello is a sweet town with wonderful shops and cafes and streets to explore. Parking was easy, as we visited in March (off season). We enjoyed walking along the waterfront and eating several meals at Tratorria Marcella e Pasquale in the main piazza. Gorgeous, welcoming hosts and delicious homemade pasta meals and local wine.

Final remarks on Argentario location overall: in our opinion it’s best visited by boat, so if your expectation is to find long wide sand beaches, they’re not really here. The only alternative is La Feniglia natural reserve, but that implies moving by car hoping to find a parking spot - that is about 10 kms away.

Albinia town itself we were mobbed by mosquitos, so literally ate our food and dashed back to villa. Restaurant by the supermaket and the beach cafe the best. Porto Santo Stefano was our favourite place to visit and eat. Make sure you pay for car parking on one of the meters. Porto Ecole you can hire boat from for a few hours out on water. Again make sure to pay for car parking.

Porto Ercole is a wonderful hidden gem on Monte Argentario.

Porto Ercole is a wonderful hidden gem on Monte Argentario. It is a small town with lots of great restaurants and activities. We had a wonderful snorkeling day trip, drove to Porto Santo Stefano for a day at the beach, and enjoyed the ambiance and liveliness of the town. I did wish that we had more knowledge of how to book the beach umbrellas and chairs at the various beaches ahead of time, as we were there in August and the shade was a must! I would have liked to have had more time to do some hiking in other areas of Monte Argentario, that would be most logical to do in the cooler weather. Very friendly town with nice restaurants, great gelato and lovely people.

Incredible place to relax and unwind. The staff and food are exceptional. The views are so beautiful and sunsets priceless. There are many activities during season we came at the end to relax between sightseeing in the major cities. Easy to get to between Florence/Pisa and Rome by train or car. We would definitely return!!

We visited Isoletta Beach, which requires a bit of a walk after parking, but it’s absolutely beautiful! We rented chairs and an umbrella—though pricey, the facilities were excellent, with clean restrooms and a convenient food truck. We also spent time at the rooftop bar Scirocco, just past the hairpin turn. The valet parking was a much-appreciated touch. The views, service, drinks, and aperitifs were all outstanding. Unfortunately, the power was out in town, so most places were closed, but we did manage to visit Bar Porto, which is right on the water. Also visited Feniglia beach on our way out of town, gorgeous, sandy and spacious. Get to the beaches early in the day to find parking! Wish we had time to explore other areas on the island.

Was a delight Orbetello is in winter.

Was a delight Orbetello is in winter. Blue sky therapy for starters; no wind/rain for two solid weeks over Christmas with temps hitting 15C every day. The location, the peace and quiet, the natural beauty around this sleepy - and historic - little town. Everything about this place took me by surprise and charmed me the whole time I was there doing an Italian language course. It's a world away from the mainland hustle and bustle. Check out the sunrise/sunsets over the lagoons, the birdlife (flamingos!), the beaches and so much more. Take the local bus for a 10mn ride across the causeway over to Monte Argentario and explore Porto S. Stefano or Porto Ercole and beyond. A paradise for walkers, hikers, cyclists, birdwatchers, lovers of nature and beauty. It's just stunning!
