- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very Good - What previous guests thought, 310 reviewsWe had an incredible stay—everything from start to finish was thoughtful and seamless. The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle from the station, which made our arrival stress-free. Upon check-in, we were welcomed with a cold drink and a traditional Japanese sweet, along with salt candies thoughtfully placed on the table—perfect for the summer heat. The check-in process was the best we've ever experienced: we sat comfortably in the lounge, which offers a stunning view, while a staff member kindly walked us through all the information in detail. Our room was spacious and beautifully designed, complete with a private bathroom and a small terrace with real green grass overlooking Tatadohama Beach. It was a truly peaceful and scenic space to unwind. Dinner and breakfast were both exquisite. The staff provided English explanations for each course, making the experience even more enjoyable and accessible. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for exceptional hospitality, comfort, and a memorable seaside escape.Guest review bySvetlanaJapan
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Excellent - What previous guests thought, 533 reviewsEverything was perfect for us: Location: conveniently close to the Kawazu station (15 mins by walk), hotel provides shuttle services for pick-up and drop-off Amenities: Spacious room with balcony and sea view. All the required amenities present inside the room. One of the best hotels we have stayed in Japan. Hotel also has a pool which is open from July to September and cleanly maintained. Beach access: Imaihama beach is just at the backside of the hotel with very clean black sand beach and perfect waves. Hot spring was cherry on the cake, separate ones for men and women with all the required facilities inside. Hotel also has 2 restaurants one Japanese and other one French serving breakfast, lunch and dinner (we didn’t try though). Also, it has got library, kids play room etc. Overall perfect hotel.Guest review byJitendraIndia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 87 reviewsEverything was exceptional. The traditional building was beautifully maintained and every corner was photo worthy. The staff were friendly and took very good care of us. Our room was beautiful and spacious, we had a wooden tub in our bathroom to soak in and amazing garden views from the windows. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Onsens were wonderful and each one had its own charm and feel. The place is a short walk from the bus stop and next to the bridges and bamboo grove, allowing easy access in the evening. The stay at this ryokan was definitely a highlight of our Japan trip and we’d love to stay here again.Guest review byHsuanNew Zealand
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very Good - What previous guests thought, 105 reviewsThe rustic cottage is in beautiful area and very clean and comfortable. The host and his wife were wonderful and so hospitable. They are some of the nicest people we have met on our trip! They even came to pick us up at the station and drove us to a late lunch after when they found out we had a long day and hadn’t eaten. We also enjoyed the peaceful surroundings! Thank you so much for making our stay for our son’s graduation at ISAK even more memorable😃Guest review byIreneUnited States

Nagoya is a really nice city, very easy to get around and much less crowded than the other big cities. There are a number of things to do such as, visit the huge planetarium, the Tokugawa gardens, the Noritake museum to see the beautiful ceramics. There are also Ghibli Park and Legoland for families and the castle is lovely. From Nagoya there is easy access to many other places such as Takeyama and Shirakawago.Guest review bymarkAustralia - 10.0

Really liked downshifting from Tokyo and spending 2 nights in Kanazawa--a third might have even been right. The gardens, architecture, restaurants. Would definitely recommend to anyone who asked where to stop during a Japan vacation.Guest review bySNDUnited States - 10.0
Everything about Fujikawaguchiko is just perfect.
Everything about Fujikawaguchiko is just perfect. Nice town, beautiful view of Mt Fuji. For an outdoor enthusiast, this town is perfect. It got mountains, nice enough for day hike. it got caves, lakes, old tunnel turn into a museum, ropeway, halal restaurant. I just love Fujikawaguchiko and its beauty.Guest review byZelaMalaysia - 10.0

Takayama is beautiful, geared towards local and foreign tourists. The only catch is that some places will only take catch so you need to keep that in mind. We found beautiful crafts close to the temple, we also visited the local morning markets and caught the bus to Shirakawa-Go which I cannot reccomend enough.Guest review byHelenaMalta - 8.0

I've been extremely lucky, I was in Niigata after a snowstorm and I found an amazing scenery of beaches under a white carpet. The fisherman market is an experience you should not miss, delicious food and crazy cheap bill. Try to drive the coastline!Guest review byMastershifuChina - 10.0
Shizuoka is a hidden gem.
Shizuoka is a hidden gem. You can stay here and get to many sightseeing destinations by rail (day trips) and come back to the relaxation of more laidback location. Locals are very pleasant and friendly, not so jaded by the over tourism of Kyoto and Osaka. We speak very limited Japanese, but were welcomed and managed in small local restaurants and Izakayas.Guest review byMarkAustralia - 10.0

I went to Nagano to do historical research at three separate facilities about an hours drive from central Nagano City. -- My main objective was visiting the Underground Imperial Headquarters 松代大本営地下壕 (松代象山地下壕) at Matsushiro. The tunnel system is impressive, and the museum next to it adds a lot of background. -- I visited the Hijiri Aviation Museum 聖博物館 in Omi, which displays items and posters full of info about its past as a stop for those on the way to Zenkoji Temple in Nagano City, as well as having a few combat aircraft and a main gun from the Japanese Battleship Mutsu. In an out-of-the-way place. -- I also went to the Mugonkan 戦没画学生慰霊美術館 無言館 in Ueda City. A very somber place since it introduces Japanese artists (showing a couple of their paintings) who died during the war years. Also in a rather remote location. It's unfortunate that all three have signs and displays that are almost exclusively in Japanese. Non-Japanese speakers who are interested in World War II history and happen to be near Nagano may still get something out of a self-tour of the tunnel system in Matsushiro, which is interesting to see in person (and cool in summer). The Wikipedia entry for it seems accurate, much more than you can find on site in English. Be aware that cameras are allowed at Hijiri, but cannot be used in the Mugonkan and in the Matsushiro museum (the tunnels are okay). I don't recommend taking kids to any of these sites.Guest review byTheodoreJapan - 10.0

People there are very helpful and courteous. It is very clean, and uncongested. Quiet and peaceful, unlike the other cities. I highkt recommend pairing Toyama and Tetayama, i.e. 3 and 2 nights respectively . Simply amazing.Guest review byWangSingapore - 8.0
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us.
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us. Easy to get to from Osaka. Stayed in a traditional ryokan (tattoo friendly). Spent the day walking along the harbour to the ropeway up to Atami castle which had several different art displays and museums including an adults only one and a great view of the coast. Away from the beach things were pretty steep so a car might have been a sensible optionGuest review byBrigidAustralia
