Before facing a challenging 30 km stage, we treated ourselves to a stay here — and it couldn’t have been better. I’ve worked in hospitality for over ten years and rarely have I found such kind, thoughtful, and professional staff. The services offered are truly outstanding: free happy hour, 24-hour coffee and drinks, a smoking area on every floor, vending machines, microwaves, and beautiful, well-curated amenities. The room was extremely comfortable, with a great bed and a spacious, modern shower. You can feel the attention to detail and the guest’s well-being. Also, the location is strategic, perfect for exploring the area. We asked a bilingual staff member to initiate the call for us. She did. During a 30 min call with AVIS, she stayed nearby us to assist if needed. Matsuyama is a city with a lot to offer. From the stunning views from Matsuyama castle, to the history of Dogo Onsen. Niihama was a perfect stop in our bicycle trip (perfect distances between two spots). Otherwise there is not much to do in the city unfortunately. The island has a very slow pace. Great for relaxing. We came here on a motorcycle/fishing trip. The motorcycle part was great. The fishing part…. was difficult😩 Lots of chinu (black bream) around and big, but they were not interested in the lures we used. Saw some locals catching them with bait, so we will have to change our strategy next time! Also, squid fishing is quite popular. One more thing, many restaurants only open for lunch or close/take last orders early so be prepared for this or you’ll be eating convenience store foods!🤣Guest review byAustinTaiwan - 10.0

The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed. It was Ryokan Kominka Mitsuhama, and it was detailed by a true artist. You have 2 floors of space with the bedroom upstairs and a large living room downstairs. The living room is surrounded by 2 different mature and well lit Japanese gardens. One had many Koi swimming in the ponds. So lovely! It was in a quiet, low key neighborhood but just 2 blocks to the river and near a little working fisherman's bay. The boats were squid fisherman with lights strung on them because they fish at night with the lights to attract the squid. There were plenty of small local restaurants and bakeries. Great base for riding the Shimanami Kaido. We rode for 2 days returning by ferry, with our bikes, from Habu. The town and port are easy to get around and the tourist information at the train station was excellent. We stayed near the station where there was a great choice of restaurants. When we booked we thought we were staying inImabari city. Because the address of Wakka is Imabari rather than Omishima island. So our only view of Imabari city was from train station and bus.
