- From US$142.99 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 2,263 reviewsThe location of the hotel, is fantastic, it's just five minutes walk from the Jr station and close to everything. The bathroom is updated and well equipped. I couldn't thank more to the staff of the hotel, they are not just only professional and helpful but also kind and really put themselves into customers' shoes. I suffered a horrible backache right after I checked out in the morning. It was so painful, that I couldn't even stand in the lobby. After I lied on the couch for a few minutes, we realized that our only option was to stay at least one more night in the hotel. My friend who couldn't even speak a single Japanese word told the staff about our situation. Luckily, they had one last room available and the staff allowed us to check in immediately, which literally saved my life. We actually stayed in the hotel for two more nights before we decided to cancel all our schedule due to my pain, and even we couldn't book the same type of room, the staff allowed us to stay in the same room as I was not able to move at all. When we were finally leaving the hotel, the staff helped me to carry all my luggage. To the taxi. I forgot to ask the staff's name, but every staff that we met in the hotel were just kind and warm hearted. So I just want to say "thank you" to all of them. This is far beyond good service this is the kind of kindness that you would remember for your whole life.Guest review byLenaUnited States
- From US$704.05 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 153 reviewsThe room (I had the basic level option) was gigantic for Japan, with a huge picture window and a view to die for. To say I was blown away upon arrival would be an understatement. The hotel is spacious and uncrowded. I suspect it caters almost exclusively to the Japanese market so some instructions were on rather informal notes, or simply only in Japanese. The rate is breakfast and dinner included but also includes unlimited alcohol from 7pm and coffee/tea/refreshments all day with an icecream bar in the late morning and afternoon. The silence and sleep quality was superb as was the bathroom with shower.Guest review bySimonSpain
- From US$114.39 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 890 reviewsI expected a tiny room because it was the cheapest option around Sendai Station. But I’ve got a big room (in Jp standards) with a big bed, I even had a place to do yoga in the room. The bathroom was comfy too, with a big bathtub. The bed was very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and fast. I couldn’t return to hotel to pick up my luggage on the next day, so they agreed to help to send it to my address in Kyoto. All these things made me very satisfied. Will stay at Richmond Hotel on my next time in Sendai.Guest review bySabineJapan
- From US$51.07 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.1Good - What previous guests thought, 1,295 reviewsReally great location right near a major shopping arcade and many restaurants. While it’s a bit of a walk to Sendai station, it’s a really good walk, and there’s a subway station quite close as well. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the twin room I booked as Japanese hotel rooms are often quite small, so we had plenty of room. I like the classic/retro feel of the decor a lot and the staff were friendly.Guest review byTurinAustralia

I sadly only got to visit around the station area both alone, with a friend and some locals and it was the highlight of my trip. The huge shopping area starting from the station extends for many blocs and has everything you could ever want from arcades to second hand shops to all sorts of restaurants and cafes. The malls next to the station have all your sort of branded shops like Gundam Base and Pokemon Center. The nightlife is pretty nice and the few places we hit while wandering with a friend from Sendai were very tasty and everyone's super friendly!Guest review byAlessandroItaly - 10.0

Declared one of Japan's top 3 scenic views, this is a cute hamlet to get away from big city travel. They have wonderful oyster/seafood restaurants, beautiful shrines, and a gorgeous waterfront. Easy daytrip from Sendai, but worth a night's stay if you have the time.Guest review byCarolynCanada - 8.0

If you were willing to learn something from the tragedy of tsunami in 2011(March) in pursuit of the enhancing the security network for communities against disasters, the memorials & facilities here in Ishinomaki could give you hints for benchmarking.Guest review byHwang - 10.0

The town of Shiogama is what we Americans call a "bedroom" community of a large city - in this case being Sendai. It has all the basic amenities that a traveler needs (restaurants, convenience stores, etc.). All the action that a typical seeks is in Sendai which is only but a 15 to 20 minute ride by JR Rail. In my opinion, staying in Shiogama has its advantages in terms of affordability (especially for B&Bs) since Sendai can be quite pricey. Travelers should take that into consideration.Guest review byErwinUnited States - 10.0

Zao has a property alpine village, the mountain is great, very scenic. The snow quality is great due to the colder temperatures. The only thing we didnt like was the lift lines on the cable car or ropeway as they call it and the gondola to the top to see the snow monsters. The lift lines were 1-2hrs long due to all of the sightseers. They have a priority line and bus loads of people turn up after you have been waiting for an 1hr and go straight in front of you.Guest review byAdrianAustralia - 8.0

(1) Great hotel with close proximity to Sendai Station. (2) Staffs are very friendly, although made a little error in breakfast choice, but hotel did make correction immediately. (3) Public bath is very good, although the floor is a little slippery where guests may fall if walking fast.Guest review byAnonymousUnited States - 10.0
I had a fantastic stay at this ryokan.
I had a fantastic stay at this ryokan. The indoor onsen was wonderfully relaxing, offering a peaceful and soothing experience. What truly stood out, though, was the incredible staff. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel like family—attentive, kind, and always ready to help with a smile. Their genuine hospitality really made the stay special. The room was comfortable and traditional, with everything we needed for a cozy, restful night. I highly recommend this ryokan for anyone looking for exceptional service and a peaceful getaway.Guest review byWolfgangJapan - 8.0

I have to say the view nearby from Matsushima is simply amazing (~30 min by train from Sendai station)! I also very much enjoyed the walk through the mausoleum grounds, but the rest is very much "just a city", and I didn't find anything else that was particularly interesting for me. The local specialty of beef tongue is nice, but quite pricey for what it is (it should be noted I'm mainly vegetarian, so meat-lovers might feel differently!).Guest review byRafael JamesSwitzerland - 8.0

Matsushima is a small tourist city, quite a few coaches and tour parties. The main attraction is a boat trip around the bay which is recommended, although it may be nicer in one of the smaller boats. Don't miss the local temples, which have lovely gardens, and in Autumn, light ups, which shouldn't be missed.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom
