The abbey complex is the place you want to see if you are interested in history: the museum, the vault and the library are amazing and absolutely worth the visit (and the price, that is even cheap). Getting around the town is easy, both walking and using the public transportation. We had a wonderful last minute trip to Appenzell. It was beautiful and friendly town. As we visit midweek in September is was less crowded and more enjoyable. We really enjoyed strolling through town and visiting the near by Eberalp Lift and walk to the Aescher Inn. Vaduz - and by extension, Liechtenstein - is a little-known...
Vaduz - and by extension, Liechtenstein - is a little-known destination, not often visited by European tourists (aside from nearby Swiss and Germans, and some Americans). The capital can easily be explored in half a day. The city itself isn’t particularly charming; you can tell it’s a prosperous place, driven by banks and the country’s attractive tax environment for setting up companies. The Prince’s Castle isn’t open to visitors, but you can walk up and see it from the outside. It offers a nice view over Vaduz and the Rhine Valley. Prices are quite high (Switzerland is just next door), and the local cuisine doesn’t really feature distinctive specialties - it’s mostly local twists on Swiss, German, or Austrian dishes. The principality doesn’t have spectacular sights, but it’s worth a short visit just to see it once in your life - for example, to spot the distinctive black license plates marked “FL” for Fürstentum Liechtenstein (Principality of Liechtenstein in German) - though it’s not really a place where you’d want to linger for long.Guest review byJoel_BEBelgium - 8.0

Rapperswil-Jona is an absolutely beautifully pretty little historical town with everything you need. It has an abundance of restaurants of all types, some in tiny little cobbled back streets and many overlooking the lake. The best thing we found during our stay was the superb lake swimming area. There are purpose built changing rooms, life guards, a café, sun-decks, showers and a large protected area of the lake for swimming, plus a couple of floating deck-islands if you fancy a bit of on water relaxing. We swam every morning before breakfast, which was fabulous and really a pleasure once you got in the water. This is a walkable city, with great neighborhoods and restaurants. This was also one place where we could mingle with local residents and learn to chat in German briefly.
