The setting is wonderful--an early 20th century industrialist's home set in a huge meadow-like park on the bank of the Saar river. The building was constructed with excellent materials: oak parquet floors. marble wainscotting. coffered wooden beam ceilings in the public rooms. All the tableware at dinner and breakfast in the formal dining rooms are excellent: not a surprise when I learned that it owned by the Villeroy & Boch company, whose factory in Mettlach makes it all!

The Relais is in a charming village in the countryside. The rooms have been completely modernized very recently and are quite beautiful. Best of all were the owners, who provided exceptional hospitality and really went the extra mile to accommodate us. We needed to have a rental car back to Paris by 11 AM, so, even though breakfast is not normally served until 7:00, the owner got up extra early and laid out a terrific breakfast for us so we could get on our way before 7:00. I wish we had spent more time here than just one hurried evening. I would definitely choose to stay here again.

    Amazing room- a suite that included a living area opening onto a balcony. Stunning full picture window of the hills. Comfortable mattress (that you can flip to adjust firmness). Lovely in-room amenities (bathrobes, slippers, beverages, bath0 and a really well designed room (easy to have a spot for everything that made sense and was functional). Amazing location- I went for a run in the Grun Holle (Green Hell) rock formation in the morning. Great spa amenities (regular sauna, infared sauna, indoor pool). Restaurant on site. Friendly staff who were efficient and got their jobs done. I would recommend this stay to anyone. Breakfast had plenty of choices for me and they even made me a soft boiled egg on demand. I had almost no issues here!

    Luxembourg has so much to offer.

    Luxembourg has so much to offer. Take advantage of the free transportation. You may have to rent a car to get to more remote locations; like Vianden Castle or Mullerthal. The history of the country is amazing and the shopping and food are great. We spent a week and barely touched the surface.

    Wonderful visit to the black gate, free of charge. City center is nice. The roman museum was a bit of a let down - all signs in German, and even with the audio guide most items did not have any explanation. City center did not have that many restaurants.

    Echternach, if not the entire t of Luxembourg, is an...

    Echternach, if not the entire t of Luxembourg, is an underrated gem. Being English we barely heard a single country person and you are really missing out! If you love the outdoors I couldn't think of a better place to come. Public transport is entirely free and very easy to navigate with the brilliant app mobiliteit.lu. We went on trains, buses and trams entirely free the whole time. It is very easy to set off from Echternach on a bus then walk all the way back, or just do a loop then return back to base. The Mullerthal trail app again is really helpful to find out what walks are in each area - app.mullerthal.lu. But you could just walk directly from Echternach and our youth hostel. The Hostel was set on the lake. There was a climbing wall, bike hire, walks and swimming lakeside. A huge adventure playground with toilets, a Roman villa, a great restaurant - all within minutes. Two supermarkets, one close to the lake and the other in the town gave plentiful options for food. The town is very attractive and has a long pedestrian street with outstanding restaurants (if you love Sushi go to Wangs, it was out of this world). It's a simple hour trip from Luxembourg city so could be done in a day but that wouldn't do it justice. You could also get to Trier in Germany (amazing city!) in about 45 minutes if a city trip was your thing. You should go!

    Berdorf is my favorite go-to location if I wanna go on a hiking weekend. It's about a three hour drive from where I live, so very doable for a weekendtrip. The entire Echternach region in beautiful (check out the Mullerthal Trail), but the region around Berdorf is especially beautiful. The forests around Berdorf all have those typical rock formations with stairs and ladders, little chasms etc that really make it so much more interesting than a normal forest hike. The town itself is very small and is really just meant to spend the night in between two days of heavy hiking.

    We technically stayed in Orscholz, which is a smaller hamelt of Mettlach. It's right where the Saarschleife is as well as a number of biking and hiking trails. We only did the Saarschleife and the Spielplatz, but could have spent a couple days there!

    Mondorf-les-Bains is a charming town with over 5,000 inhabitants located near the Luxembourg Moselle River. Home to the only casino and the only spa and fitness center in the Grand Duchy, it benefits from all the advantages of a big city: -Everything close to home, -Easily accessible by public transport, -Many leisure and recreational opportunities, -Fascinating architecture and cultural heritage, -Many shops, A wide selection of hotels and restaurants.     It's a wonderful place.

    It's a wonderful place. Luxembourg City itself can be explored in a day or two, so if you're planning a longer stay, be sure to rent a car and explore the rest of this magnificent country. Luxembourg City is beautiful, clean, and safe. It's worth walking around the impressive fortifications, seeing the cathedral, the ducal palace (open in summer), and the beautiful townhouses. If you have more time, you can visit the museums: I especially recommend the Municipal Museum and Fort Thüngen. An unforgettable experience!

There are a lot of very nice hikes easily accessible from there offering tranquility and interesting landscape alongside the river Saar, for example.
