I have travelled extensively through Africa including over 400 business and holiday visits to Mozambique from a very young age. Ilha is my favourite place. A tuk-tuk tour is invaluable for a first time visitor, thereafter you can walk or cycle. I have stayed in 6 hotels in Ilha and Teracio Das Quitandas is in the top preferences.

Ilha is a cute small island that has some nice history.

Ilha is a cute small island that has some nice history. Go to the fort and the museum. But take a hat/umbrella as it is HOT and SUNNY! There aren't really beaches at Ilha, so you'll need to book an island tour. Lots of options for that...and I have nothing to recommend in terms of one over the other! Plan to spend a day on Ilha itself and a day on the islands, and then a day to get there and a day to get back to Nampula.
