- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 590 reviewsMy stay around New Year's at this accommodation was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the heart of nature, the location offers an unparalleled tranquility that city dwellers like myself deeply appreciate. One of the most enchanting aspects was the minimal light pollution at night, which allowed for a breathtaking view of the Northern Lights—a spectacle that was on my bucket list for years. Adding to the charm and comfort of this place was the jacuzzi. It provided a perfect sanctuary to relax and soak in the serene beauty of the surroundings. The warmth of the jacuzzi against the crisp air made the experience even more delightful and unforgettable. This accommodation is a gem for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature. The opportunity to witness the Aurora Borealis in such a peaceful setting was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I couldn't recommend it more for a magical and unforgettable getawayGuest review byDavideItaly
- From US$451.42 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,268 reviewsThis is the best hotel I have ever stayed in Europe. Extraordinary breakfast buffet with varieties, free coffee and tea throughout the day. Very nice and helpful staff. It is almost at the front of the sea and can be viewed the northern lights easily. From the breakfast area, there is very impressive panoramic view to Fjords and sea. From the hotel bed room you may request for ocean view, which is recommended. There is a kettle and tea in each room. Room was very clean. The restaurant in the Thon Hotel is very good. They serve vegetables, fresh fish/crabs and meat! The sightseeing tour bus stops here in front of Thon Hotel. I will come back again. I recommend everybody to try this hotel for a visit!Guest review byKWGermany
- From US$162.91 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 645 reviewsSenja has blown our minds! Such a beautiful place. We were the only guests staying there but still the owner (or maybe not the owner but the one who has made us feel so welcome) made sure that everything was taken care of. He cooked the meals himself (delicous!) and showed us the Norwegian way of life. Also he had the best tips for spotting the Nothern Lights and even got out the come find us one evening when the Northern Lights were so clearly visible in all their colours; one night to remember (i'm even getting emtional while writing this, an absolute bucket list moment). The setting of Senja Fjordhotell is absolutely great en idyllic.Guest review byVéroniqueNetherlands

I signed up for a Thon Hotels membership and stayed at several other Thon hotels in Norway because I was so pleased with my experience at this hotel in Alta.Guest review byToshihiroJapan

Lovely small city, buses are fantastic.
Lovely small city, buses are fantastic. Not a lot to do there wouldn’t stay more than 3 days. Airport signage not good, public bus pickup point was unlit and scary to be at at nighttime. AirPort Express bus doesn’t have enough buses on at night.Guest review byMaree - 10.0
A gateway to other areas like Lofoten.
A gateway to other areas like Lofoten. My recommendation is to stay further afield to the full extent you can. as things like quiet, darkness and views all improve a lot away from the airport. And once you do... it can be magic.Guest review byPeterNew Zealand - 10.0

We chose Alta, the City of Northern Lights, to "Hunt the Aurora Borealis". We were NOT disappointed. It was a magical experience. Lots of beautiful northern lights shows. We did a number of activities: night time horse drawn sleigh ride and dinner; king crab fishing experience; tour of the Ice Hotel at Sorrisniva; dog sled ride at Holmen Husky. We stayed at a canvas dome in GLOD, with the most amazing guide to see the Northern Lights. We stayed in a forest suite at Holmen Husky. The place was incredible and the way they treat the dogs will completely change your thoughts on the sport of dog sledding. They were the sweetest and happiest dogs I've ever seen. We stayed at Flatmoen Natur Lodge, which is a family owned and ran farm. Each lodge has their own private, outdoor jacuzzi so you can sit outside while the snow is falling or hope to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.Guest review bycmayes80United States - 10.0
Small town with great history.
Small town with great history. It revolves around tourist, so thankful that the museum was open on Sunday. As I did not join tours, I find 3 days was more than enough. The tour agency for Russian border stated having tours at in the afternoons however did not approve my request and insist that I book a private tour or join the morning tour (together with the tourists from the cruises). I did not want as my mother just arrived from the cruise after 7 days, and she wants to rest first. I ended up booking a taxi and the price is the same. The taxi driver brought us to both Russian borders (old and new), let us spend time and help us take pictures. The price was standard (NOK1,600) for an hour. What is lacking is probably a tour guide to explain things. But that is OK. Kirkenes has a great view but lack good viewing points (well, I did not find any...). I found a randomly shared viewing point up a hill which was good but not the best. Must visits - Andersgrotta (Daily, 12.30pm tour, NOK300 per person), Borderland Museum, Russian Border, and see the pictures in town by Ellisif Wessel.Guest review byCY OngMalaysia - 10.0
Can't really find any negatives for this place.
Can't really find any negatives for this place. The locals are very friendly, the streets are clean, the scenery is stunning and best of all its only about 35 minutes drive to Norkapp. If you are visiting we would 100% recommend booking a trip to Norkapp. Its a fascinating place...the top of Europe!!. We flew in, stayed 3 nights then departed on a fjord cruise. Well worth every penny. We decided to take a walk one morning, its obviously very hilly but not too taxing. Its about 5 miles to completely encircle the town though that did include a few detours for the sake of photos. There is a restaurant close to the Norkapp museum called The Corner. The food, welcome and service were second to none. Totally recommend it to any visitors. Well that's my opinion of Honningsvag, visit yourself and see what you think.Guest review byJimmy & JulieUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Nice place for a short stay. Without a car you run out of options quickly. Smaller hiking trips and ski tours possible in the valley. Northern lights possible when there is no midnight sun. No supermarket in the village.Guest review byVincentGermany - 10.0

Very picturesque island, two days is more than enough to explore it. Sunshine is a rarity. End of season mid August. Place for camper vans to park. One shop and one cafe. You can buy only beer in a shop, no alcohol. For a harder spirits you need to travel to Tromso. Bring your food if you can, shops sells very simple and not very good staff. More or less decent meal you can have in an arctic hotel, which is pricey and just ok, no more, choice is limited.Guest review byTanyaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Tromsø is an amazing city; it’s known for being at great place to catch the northern lights but it’s also got lots of culture and flavor. For a smaller city, it’s got ample bars, festivals, restaurants, and easily accessible nature, that make it outrival many big cities. Catch a football game, hike a mountain, or drink beer from the world’s northernmost brewery while you’re waiting for the aurora :)Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

The city itself is not necessarily special or historic (though some bits are) but the area around the city has some great scenic walks and of course the outlook across the sea/bay is stunning at any time of year, but particularly in the blue hour of the winter days. Lots of buses run regularly to outlying areas and there are fast buses to the airport to connect with flight check-in times. Take a walk along Stien langs sjøen (path along the shore) to the Trondenes Historical Museum (great wee cafe there) and the Adolf cannon from WW2.Guest review byFraserUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Lovely cute place which is not too commercial.
Lovely cute place which is not too commercial. Great place to do a northern light run, Go for a smaller tour size of 7-8 ppl instead of 50 sized. First its very safe even if you are going solo and also you have a more personal discussion with the group and also much more personalized attention to see the stars and the northern lights.Guest review byAnonymous
