FAQs about hotels in Azores
Portuguese Paradise Islands
The discovery of the Azores Islands is surrounded by many myths, but the official story places it in the year 1431 by Gonçalo Velho Cabral. Since then, they have been settled in different waves of migrations, creating a distinctive identity that mixes local and Portuguese continental traditions.
With their colourful houses, beautiful beaches, green hills and volcanoes, lakes, and rich traditions, the Azores Archipelago is a unique place to explore. Composed of 9 main islands and several smaller islets, their landscape and culture create magnificent settings and opportunities to enjoy.
The volcanic lakes on São Miguel Island offer beautiful beaches, earth ovens, and great panoramic views surrounded by green slopes. Being the biggest island, you will find a wide range of Azores hotels on São Miguel.
The Holy Spirit festivals mark the liveliest season and are celebrated on every island from May to September. Check out the availability of hotels for the Azores Islands on the Booking.com website during those dates.
On Pico Island, you can climb the 2,351 meters of Mount Pico, the highest point in Portugal. The picturesque city of Angra do Heroismo on Terceira Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

- From US$167.20 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 825 reviewsI recently stayed at Aldeia da Cuada on Flores Island, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the reception was warm and kind, making us feel truly welcome. The property itself is enchanting. Our house was one of 16 restored stone cottages, complete with a beautiful private garden offering stunning views of Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro, several breathtaking waterfalls, and the vast ocean. The sunsets from the garden were absolutely magical. We were also charmed by two friendly cats, including one named Alfredo, who greeted us upon arrival and became our evening companions. Their presence added a cozy, homely touch to our stay. The on-site restaurant is exceptional, showcasing the unique flavors of Flores with dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients. Given the limited dining options on the island, this was a fantastic and convenient feature of Aldeia da Cuada. Another highlight of this location is its proximity to all the main attractions of Flores. Whether exploring waterfalls, hiking trails, or soaking in the island’s natural beauty, everything was just a short drive away. Aldeia da Cuada is more than just a place to stay; it’s a peaceful retreat that captures the heart and spirit of Flores. Highly recommended!Guest review byBartoszPoland
- From US$152 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very good - What previous guests thought, 426 reviewsI don't understand why so many people are complaining about this hotel. It is as close to the ferry terminal as you can get. , The rooms are clean and tidy. The pool has a nice view on Faial, and is beeing cleaned every morning (and they are probably the only ones having a pool in Pico anyway...) You can walk in less than 5 minutes to all the different tour operators (Diving, Hiking, Whalewatching, Rentalcars....) and restaurants. It is maybe a bit dated, but I felt like they were doing their best at being welcomig. They even organise a mini breakfast buffet from 04 a.m - 7 a.m for people leaving early on hikes or diving tours...! Keep in mind that every Airbnb in the area is more expensive , without offering you room service, breakfast or a pool area. If you come to Pico for its great nature activities, and want an easy hotel, thats your place to go!!Guest review byYannLuxembourg
- From US$241.03 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,257 reviewsMy family and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Pestana Bahia Resort in the Azores Islands, and it was an unforgettable experience that exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that made us feel right at home. The resort itself is a stunning oasis, nestled amidst the lush, green landscape that the Azores are famous for. Our accommodation was spacious, immaculately clean, and equipped with all the modern amenities that a family of four could need. The beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep after each day's adventures. What truly sets Pestana Bahia Resort apart, however, is its exceptional staff. Every member of the team was friendly, helpful, and genuinely dedicated to making our stay as enjoyable as possible. In suGuest review byEduardosSlovakia

- From US$220.98 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,090 reviewsI really liked the quiet serene environment. The room was beautiful and clean and did not have carpets which can be a trigger for allergies for me. But most of all the staff were very helpful and welcoming. The steak dinner Philp prepared for me was the beast I have had in a really long time. All the meals I had were very tasteful and worth coming back for.Guest review byObasiCanada

Lovely place to explore , the botanical garden Borges is free and really nice to see . Lovely bars and restaurants scattered all over . Plenty to see and do here for a few days . We got a taxi to the lava caves in town ( grutas do carvão ) but we walked back as it’s only a 15/20 min walk . The 1 hour Cave tour is worth doing and cost €10 .Guest review byPaulPortugal - 8.0
Hilly nice little town with historical center and marina.
Hilly nice little town with historical center and marina. Not easy to drive through and park, but excellent for walking. Not many souvenir shops, and lots of cheap Chinese fake products but comparing to other towns in Azores this one is quite big. Bars, restaurants and bistros are there but these are not the best, they are sufficient though. The natural reserve on peninsula with citadel and military base is extraordinary. Great view and experience, nice for picnic or hiking!Guest review byJarek__PLPoland - 10.0
We went on a full day tour of Faial with Andre at Visitfaial...
We went on a full day tour of Faial with Andre at Visitfaial. This let us see all the sites. Faial is a beautiful island and I wish we had more time there. Horta is more of a town than a city, size wise. It has a big marina and this was buzzing with lots to look at including some big yachts. There are some busy bars and restaurants which are fun to visit although we preferred the quieter ones in Porto Pim Bay Area. Genuino has lots of memorabilia from the owner’s sailing adventures. The tuna steaks were massive. We had a table upstairs at window with lovely views across the bay. Taberna de Pim was also good and we were able to eat outside on the bay.Guest review byPaulineUnited Kingdom - 8.0
I enjoyed Riberia Grande.
I enjoyed Riberia Grande. It is a great place to situate yourself if you are planning to visit different areas of the island. The public swimming pools and ocean access was fantastic. I enjoyed going to the courtyard area in my area nightly to eat and enjoy a glass of wine. Took a little getting used to the serving staff here as they did not seem interested in their customers. Upon searching Google, I found out this may be because they are paid a decent living wage and therefore not reliant on tips. This makes it even more confusing as to why they would not be receptive to their customers.Guest review byRosannaCanada - 10.0
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in.
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in. You can book acitivities with agencies near the port. There are a couple of really good restaurants. Pico wine is amazing! During my stay in Pico (may) the weather was extremely changing and it was very hard to plan activities such a hiking Mt. Pico that depends on the weather. The temperature could feel like 30c while it was sunny and felt like 10c when cloudy and rainy. The same goes for the wind. Averall worth the experience tho. :)Guest review byMartinCanada - 10.0

A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying,...
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying, with very nice people, and an overall good atmosphere. There is enough to see and to enjoy, from food, ice-creams, and cafes. It also has a lovely small market where you can eat as well, and opposite a garden with a nice sitting area. It has all possible shops, a large grocery, it's surrounded by hills, and much green. There are many very nice old houses, nicely renovated We are not young, so I can't say. There is a very nice and spacious beach with fine black sand The town is a little bit on a hill, but by walking down, you can enjoy a very nice view of the sea. This is also the heart of the town. Another good trip is a walk the monup the hill to ument. It can be walked from both sides, both offering very nice views all around. Moving around without a car is quite difficultGuest review byJIRINASlovakia - 10.0

It is a beautiful and historic building with so much character. It has calm and peaceful seating areas throughout where you can sit in comfort. They have the best breakfast and we relied on the banana for a snack as we were out and about during the day. This location is perfect for exploring the island as it is centrally located. We will definitely be backGuest review bySallyUnited Kingdom - 8.0

São Roque is very spread out, so a car is needed if you stay outside the heart of the village. Most restaurants were closed, so dining out was tricky (end of March). It is worth staying in a self catering place when going off season. The minimarket by the fire-station is well stocked. Safe swimming spot at the Naval Club. Close to hiking trails.Guest review byOdilePortugal - 10.0
A magical village with kind helpful people.
A magical village with kind helpful people. The village is like something out of a fairytale, perfect scenery, with beautiful well kept livestock, has such a nostalgic feel. The food was incredibly fresh and tasty, we also stayed in Sao Miguel (5 star hotel) but the food here was of a way better standard! Be carful when driving at night, ensure you have an offline map as signal is weak down some winding country lanes- we got quite lost and roads are very steep.Guest review byNailaUnited Kingdom
