Really fun, lovely town. We loved the old town, it was filled with character. Lots of little shops and stalls and every type of cuisine you could possibly want! Although the cliffs were amazing to see, the beaches are hard to access. Parking is a nightmare. Lots of steps down to the beach. Not good for anyone with mobility issues. Dona Ana beach is pretty small during high tide. North Americans who are used to easily accessible, long beaches in Florida, Carolinas, Maine or California may find the beach accessibility stressful and the beaches disappointing. Lots of restaurants and stores in the central area. Touristy but fun for a short stay. Lots of bars for the younger crowd. If you are staying in the central historical area walking distance to the restaurants, you will likely have to park outside the city walls and walk to your accommodation. Tricky to drop off luggage in small streets. Can't imagine driving through them in anything but a compact car.Guest review bySandraCanada - 8.0

Tavira is very pretty. The architecture of the older buildings is beautiful and every effort is made to keep the period properties as they should be. Aljezur is a great location to visit if you like nature, surfing, good food, a slower pace of life. I would recommend staying in Aljezur, getting a car to drive around to different beaches and villages where you can find good restaurants. Amazing place lots of restaurants and bars but it is all spaced out if you have good legs this is no problem. Of course you can hire a car and drive out at night but if you want to drink you need to walk as we didn't see 1 taxi on our 9 night stay. Find accommodation near to Mareta beach as that's about central. Very young area lots of fit surfing people day and night which is great. There are 3 beaches within walking distance Tonel is the one for surfing if you can do!! Mareta beach is the nicest of the 3. There are many more you can drive to. The fort is interesting. Been visiting Alvor for yrs. This trip was the third this year. Alvor not for the party animal. But some great nights to be had. Walking along boardwalk and other pathways a must. The people are delightful, always smiling. Plenty of taxis to be had. For people with mobility issues Alvor might prove a challenge due to streets being steep,uneven footpaths that are also narrow.
