Liked the history, culture and compact nature for getting around. The walled town and Obidos castle were highlights. Lots of little outdoor cafes and restaurants to choose from. The town is definitely geared up for tourists but it is certainly seasonal. Out of season there is not much to do there. There are a huge number of camper vans and RVs around the parking areas along the beach roads, because of the surfing. a town with character and he’s just the right size for me. It has a pretty centre with so much within walking distance and with the advantage of a bike I could explore the edges of the city that seemed to have most large stores as one would expect for a town of that size. On my bike this visit I spent hours getting lost and found on the many small backstreets where I always found people to talk to and redirect me when lost. A friendly place. Great connections by bus and train, only an hour from Lisbon. And then a fabulous coast to explore by public transport or bicycle. If you are looking for a secluded,quiet, holiday with nothing but the beach, and a golf course, then this is perfect, but there were no bars, cafes, shops,chemist, taxi rank or local bus service, so without a car you are pretty much stranded. The resort was very large, but a lot of the apartments and beautiful villas were locked up and empty, we hardly saw a soul in the week spent there, 15 minutes drive to the nearest town or an hour and half walking, if you want blisters! Good supermarket. Museum was interesting and staff really friendly and helpful. Magnolia cafe excellent for breakfast. Sushi restaurant was also excellent with friendly staff. Parking was easy and free. Children enjoyed the dinosaur park and finding the sculptures round town. Holy Cow! This is the Surfers Mecca! Biggest wave ever ridden in 2021 by Sebastian Steudtner from Germany, 86 feet! The ladies drying fish on the beach was fun. Decent glassed-in restaurant right on the beach near hotel. Great food and best garlic baguette toasted I've ever had plus excellent pasta.
