It is located in a part of Košice that is just a short car or bus ride away from the city center, yet far enough for one to enjoy the beautify and tranquility of Slovakia's great outdoors. The property itself is historic and staying here is a cultural experience in itself - the spa/wellness center on site is reflective of how important spa and sauna are to Central European/Slovak culture and this is reflected in the fact that entry to the wellness was included with my hotel stay. The restaurant on site also had an excellent variety of cuisine, including several traditional Slovak dishes, and had staff that was caring, attentive, and multilingual. I particularly liked that the restaurant on site was willing to accommodate a request for food to be prepared, billed, and delivered to my room through room service. Even though there was a fee for this service, the service was professional and of high quality and also enabled me to enjoy more time relaxing in the wellness center while my food was being prepared. The central section is a delight of course but a stroll through the back streets is also worthwhile for the atmosphere (who expects to find a great bell mounted on an insignificant corner) and architectural oddities. Kosice is not all that great on English ( or other western European languages) but leaving taxi drivers out of the equation you can usually find someone to answer questions. The eateries are good here but best are the smaller ones. Biggest gripe? These clean and modern apartments are stunning. They are equipped with everything you need for a comfortable self catered stay. The host left lots of personal touches which were very much appreciated. We chose an upstairs apartment for the balcony and a better view. This was the case, however there is still a lot of building work being carried out opposite which kind of ruined it. The check-in was easy and explained well via a message. But unfortunately because this address isn’t registered on Google Maps yet, it’s a bit difficult to find. It is actually down an unmarked gravel lane. Easy once you know this, but the host didn’t mention this beforehand. The area its self is perfect for exploring the National park. We did one of our walks from the apartment it’s self. The apartment is going to be part of a holiday complex which will be very luxurious when finished. I think that it is reflected in the price currently charged (unfinished). I had an exceptionally pleasant time in Košice, a beautiful city with wonderful, well-mannered and educated people, many of whom speak widely spoken foreign languages. The beer is excellent, the food is very well cooked – even the Italian dishes – and the terraces in the city centre offer both comfort and the chance to admire the architecture of the old merchants’ and noblemen’s houses. Košice has numerous museums, churches, and beautiful places to visit. I recommend the East Slovak Museum and the Aviation Museum, as well as St. Elisabeth’s Church and the museum of the former prison with the Executioner’s House. Hrabusice is an excellent base for hiking at the Slovensky Raj or High Tatras. It is also close to many historical sites. We loved staying at Ubytovanie at Emka. I loved Spisska Nova Ves. The old part of the town is very pretty and it is a short train ride to Poprod and from there to the mountains, which are beautiful. I wish I'd been able to stay here longer. And I loved the art gallery. Not big but some really interesting exhibits. Spisska is easy to walk around and the restaurants are great and not expensive. Small town with not much to do.
Small town with not much to do. It was a stopover destination on the way home from a trip to rural slovakia. In one or two days pretty much everything can be seen. We didnt use public transport, there were some trams and buses going around but the place is so small they are not really needed. The old parts of town are very nice, clean and well preserved. Lots of restaurants and bars with good atmosphere. However stepping outside of the historic part of town, everything looks like it is still the same way as the soviets left it. brutalist concrete block buildings, half falling apart. Spisska Nova Ves a middle size town with historic center and largest oval-type square in Europe. Catholic church's tower in SNV is tallest one in middle Europe. Moreover SNV is the center of historic Spis (Sepesi, Zipser) region with museums. Near to SNV there is historic town of Levoca (10km distance) with extraordinary St. James Basilica equipped with wooden altar of high historic value.
