The welcome from Samuel and Ndeye Awa was incredibly warm. I cannot stress enough how kind and helpful and friendly they were. They gave excellent advice about the area and various sightseeing options, sorted my cabs, recommended special Senegalese dinner options (always delicious), and even invited me to share lunch with them whenever I happened to be around at the time. My room was large, with really cool decor (pink walls, giraffe print bedding, bamboo/ thatched ceiling, pebbled concrete, stylish light fittings), and the shower was a dream for hot water and pressure. A/C worked great too.. The grounds of the Lodge are nicely manicured, the pool was refreshing, and there is a really nice semi-covered roof terrace that offered amazing sea views. The area is also a birdwatcher's paradise. The Lodge is a 5-10 minute walk to Fadiouth island, 10 minute drive to the Sacred Boabab tree, and 30 minutes drive to an entry point to the Sine-Saloum delta. If you want to explore further afield there are lots of trips and excursions planned for you and are all excellent value for money! We enjoyed walking with Joseph and learning about the medicinal qualities of the trees and shrubs, and a horse and cart ride to 3 villages on the island. We also enjoyed a boat trip to see the pelicans and herons coming in to roost at the end of the day. Wi-fi did not work in the rooms but did work in the courtyard albeit a bit slow. There are restaurants - you can eat at the hotel, one is nearby towards the main road and some local no frills places on the main road. It is easy to find a taxi on the main road. An amazing place, peaceful, quiet, relaxing, a real oasis. Very clean, great kitchen, you can do trips from the place or just lie in a hammock, go for a swim, watch the crabs, read a book, observe the sunrise (which is truly amazing at this place). If you look foreign, they will try to charge you 5000cfa just to walk across the bridge to fadiout island. If you look Senegalese, you can walk across for free. We didn't bother to cross as the the price was too high and the men were pushy. Found a nice restaurant with a great view on the mainland side of the bridge.
