- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 198 reviewsGreat little resort less than 10 minutes walk from the pier. You don't get disturbed though as any boats are quiet and don't come along very often. The place is great! Right on the beach you can watch sunrise from your own private terrace although we opted to walk down the steps onto the beach where there are some seats/hammocks dotted around. The room itself was clean, bed was super comfy and we had some quality sleep with the sound of the waves to sooth us. Was nice to have a good sized room with a terrace to dry our clothes. The first day we walked to some restaurants about 20 minutes away but decided to rent a motorbike as other beaches and restaurants are usually a 5-10 minute drive. The resort serve reasonably priced food both western and Thai (just in the morning and evening), with an idyllic view. When we left they also helped take our bags to the pier and I even forgot an item of clothing which they very kindly put on a boat to Koh Kood so I could collect it on the other side. Overall, really enjoyed our stay and would recommend!Guest review bySimonUnited Kingdom
- From US$49.95 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.8Good - What previous guests thought, 841 reviewsWe absolutely loved our stay here! The staff are absolutely incredible, they are so friendly and really made us feel welcome and at home. The facilities on site are wonderful, the pool is perfect and you can walk right out onto the gorgeous clean and sandy beach from the hotel. Breakfast was really lovely too with both a Thai and American style option available and cooked to order. We rented a moped from the hotel for the day for 250 baht which was super convenient and essential for getting around the island. On my last evening here I soaked up the stunning twilight hour on the beach with one of the furry and friendly hotel residents which was delightful! The staff could not have done any more for us, they were amazing and even helped us arrange a boat and taxi for our next stop to Koh Kood! I would highly recommend Makathanee Resort to all travelers to Koh Mak, whether you are solo, a couple or family. Incredible value for money!Guest review bySiobhanIreland
- From US$138.50 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 904 reviewsWe stayed in the Beach Front Suite for three nights during our month-long trip to Thailand. This was our second location of many to come. I am writing this review after our trip, and I highly recommend this as one of the best places we stayed during our journey. I highly recommend staying at this hotel if you are in Koh Mak. Our room was unique and offered a lot of privacy. We even tanned naked on the terrace on the second floor. The hotel offers yoga classes led by a yoga teacher from Belgium who has been living here for 8 years. It was an incredible experience. During our 3-day stay, I was able to have a private lesson with her and participate in two group activities. We also had a 2-hour workshop where we released a lot of emotions and had a great time.Guest review byPovilasLithuania
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 574 reviewsOur second stay here and it's still a gem of a hotel, nestled in the best stretch of the best beach on the island. Happy to conclude they still manage to hit all the marks. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful (special thanks to Mouy!), the breakfast is good with a reasonable selection, and the overall atmosphere is more in harmony with the surrounding nature rather than a stale, curated, resort vibe. We've already decided to add a few extra nights here toward the end of our trip as we're not quite yet ready to say goodbye to this place.Guest review byIiroUnited Arab Emirates
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 169 reviewslocated right on the beach, with a little beach bar, serving drinks and food throughout the day to night. the room was exceptionally clean (& cleaned daily). the owners were so friendly and helpful with all our needs & requests. located next to a smaller pier with boats running twice a day to: Kood, Chang & Trat you can also get a smaller boat to Koh Kham for snorkelling. we loved it so much we extended for another 3 nights!Guest review byAmyNetherlands
- From US$71.36 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 127 reviewsWe liked the peace fully staying. Had a fantastic room with view over the island. There is an outdoor gym that we used all days. It has 3 big fans. Enough for doing exhausting activities. It’s a fantastic experience to do gym in this outdoor environment. Love it.Guest review bySusannePortugal

Koh Mak is quite small but beautiful and has a lot of nature. Good kick-boxing school. Variety of good eating places Koh Mak seafood being one of them. It is far more relaxed than Koh Chang with less to do but I actually found the peacefulness and serenity more alluring. The people are friendly and it has a up early sleep when the sunsets kind of vibe but also if you want to be out later you can. There are some very picturesque beaches and bars. Also a variety of takes on food By the sea has great sandwiches etc. If the weather turns bad then this is when the boredom may be an issue. However I loved the thunderstorms and lightening shows. Best I had ever seen.Guest review byMarty TUnited Kingdom - 10.0

After researching on Google satellite I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Much lusher and more tourist-friendly than I expected. Though it's a small island, there's enough there to explore more than we could in 3 nights. And it is the ideal launching site to visit the famous diving and snorkeling sites around Koh Rang island. Five nights would be adequate, unless you're a snorkeling/diving addict, then maybe more.Guest review byFredUnited States - 8.0

Very small island which is still kind of rural and not very touristy. That also means that there are not many amenities or fun things you can do. Accommodations are more basic, food or bar options are limited, and you've seen all of the island in a few hours. But you can also have a perfect chill time without any noisy tourist crowds or big loud party areas. Beaches are great. If you want more action, just take the ferry to Ko Chang (once a day).Guest review byTyeJ_travelGermany
