FAQs about hotels on Koh Samui
Palm Trees and Pristine Seas
One of Thailand’s most famous islands, Koh Samui (or Ko Samui) is a tropical paradise whose palm trees emerge from the pristine white sands at unbelievable angles, and whose offshore reefs make for great diving.
The most developed resort is Chaweng, though most bars and clubs are set back from the beautiful beach, so the views are still wonderful. Slightly less lively is Lamai, though its beach is no less impressive. Both of these resorts are home to a large number of Koh Samui hotels with private pools, a popular requirement of many visitors, despite the wonderfully warm waters.
Lipa Noi in the west faces Thailand’s east coast and has some beautiful sunsets, while the northern fishing village of Bo Phut is gaining in popularity. Nearby Mae Nam and Cheong Mon both have sweeping beaches that gently shelve into the sea, making them popular family choices.
Travellers don't go tot Koh Samui for its sights – but interesting attractions include the Big Buddha at Bangrak’s Wat Phra Yai temple, and the Wat Khunaram Ko Samui temple inland from Hua Thanon.
As well as a great range of apartments, resorts and villas, Booking.com also has Koh Samui hotel deals to help you get the most for your money on this beautiful island.

- From US$681.40 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 437 reviewsWe recently had the pleasure of staying at Banyan Tree Koh Samui, and the experience was nothing short of MAGICAL. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in a world of unparalleled luxury and tranquility. The resort's setting is nothing less than breathtaking, perched on a hillside overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. The private villas are like hidden gems, nestled amidst lush greenery, offering stunning views and a sense of complete seclusion. The attention to detail in the villa's design and amenities is truly impressive. Every aspect of the room exudes elegance, from the spacious layout to the thoughtful touches like the outdoor bathtub and the heavenly comfortable bed. The staff at Banyan Tree Koh Samui are the epitome of hospitality. Our host GIGI, "the magician" was we used to call her, would make sure that EVERY wish and request were fulfilled with the utmost urgency and care. Their warmth and genuine care (Jed, Eng, Gig, Stramp, etc) create an atmosphere that feels like home, albeit a home in paradise. The personalized service, from the friendly greetings to the meticulous housekeeping, exceeded my expectations at every turn. Dining at the resort is a culinary journey in itself. We had an amazing dinner experience at Saffron. Banyan Tree Koh Samui goes beyond being a luxurious resort; it's a holistic sanctuary for the senses. The backdrop of the ocean breeze and the soothing sounds of nature, are a transcendental experience. It's not just a stay; it's a rejuvenating escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The resort's commitment to excellence, paired with its idyllic location and exceptional service, creates a haven for those seeking an unforgettable retreat. I wholeheartedly recommend it.Guest review byHugoSwitzerland
- From US$204.42 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 568 reviewsThe resort was phenomenal. Everything exceeded our expectations from the room to the breakfast to the service. We booked the sea facing villa which had a huge bedroom, opens to the private pool and overlooks the sea. The bedroom and bathroom were very spacious (the bath had 2 standing showers and 1 bath tub) and even the private pool was pretty huge. The facility is in great condition and everything worked fine. The breakfast was very grand and had a lot of options. We were greeted with welcome drinks and since we were on our honeymoon, we got complementary cake and decor for the room. We couldn't do a dinner at the beach (needs to be booked separately) so they were kind enough to setup a table in our villa. Overall a great experience with friendly staff and amazing views.Guest review byAsad Jamil SiddiquiPakistan
- From US$732.27 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 341 reviewsOne of the most beautiful hotels I’ve stayed in. The resort is carefully designed and situated the tip of the island so you get views both towards east, north and west from different areas. The villas are secluded and well fitted to the surroundings with beautiful interior. Stunning infinity pool with sunset view. Two restaurants, both serve excellent food and the breakfast is delicious with options from the menu as well as a fresh buffet. Most of all the service was top notch throughout our whole stay from the minute of arrival to departure. Hope to come again.Guest review bySinjaFinland

Well maintained and manned by the extremely friendly, helpful, professional and tentative staff. The room’s amenities include everything you can think of in a hotel. The restaurants/bars are top notch and food was exceptionally good! The resort is well isolated from the rest of the island do not expect to use it as a hub for discovering the island. everything is provided inside so it is a full disconnection from the outside.Guest review byAbdulrahmanKuwait

I cannot even begin to describe how relaxing and tranquil this resort is. The breakfast was amazing on each day. Walk to breakfast or to the pools, or to the beach is just filled with beautiful trees, birds, squirrels with the sound of the ocean in the background. . The staff were all amazing, and would do anything to help their guests. I highly recommend this resort and hope one day I can returnGuest review byJanuszPoland

The level of service is like a 5 star hotel. We had some snacks and our microwave was broken and within 15 minutes they brought in a new one to replace ours. And they even offered to go microwave our food for us in their kitchen while we waited, really amazing staff.Guest review byPieter KThailand

Stayed on the beach and didn't venture in to the town of Chaweng, or the high street, didn't need to. A mix of resorts and hotels on the beach, from 5* to 3*, all offering great locations, food and friendly service. Some were child friendly, and very shallow waters safe for kids or non swimmers. Some hotels were adults only. It's been 10 years since I last visited and it's better than I remembered.Guest review byVictoriaCyprus - 10.0

The villa was excellent and the host was a very nice person, if you wanted anything she would get it for you, Lamai is quite peaceful but if you wanted to have more excitement you can go the cheweng which isn't to far, the island of samui is quite small and you can visit it all, make sure you hire a car or scooter,Guest review byjanet - 10.0

The Fisherman's Village was fantastic. No car or scooter access at night made for lovely walks along the street, seeing the markets and bars and restaurants in relative peace. Plus none of the typical sleazy Thai bars/clubs.Guest review byChrisAustralia - 10.0

There are only two bungalows facing the beach and they are AMAZING!! We did not want to leave our hotel. Some of the other rooms looked nice too but faced the garden walkway. One bungalow faced a concrete wall. You get what you pay for. Loved this place so much.Guest review bynhan - 10.0
This is a great tourist destination.
This is a great tourist destination. Glad we went during the low-season as it made for small, tolerable crowds. Plenty of activities and sights to do and see - we only brushed the surface with our short time there. Go for at least one week. Two would be better. The surrounding Gulf of Thailand offered lake-like calm, turquoise waters. Views everywhere are stunning. We Weill have to return again in the future. Highly recommend, especially the low-season.Guest review byLorentzUnited States - 8.0

Very friendly people and going to a night market is a great experience! Traveling across the island is easy but it may get a bit costly if you have to take a van for 6 or 8 people. Beaches on the east side are nice but busy. Beaches on the west are less crowded but may get narrow and untidy due to the tides. Overall we were missing the very long beaches with plenty of palm trees and powder-soft sand. Worth a visit are higher areas of the island in middle, e.g. Dee's Chilling Hill restaurant. Also going to the Ang Thong Marine park is very nice.Guest review byHans ErichGermany - 10.0
Chaweng Noi Beach was one of my favorite spots on Koh Samui.
Chaweng Noi Beach was one of my favorite spots on Koh Samui. It’s incredibly beautiful — soft white sand, calm turquoise water, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels like a little escape from the busier parts of the island. I loved how quiet and relaxed it was, perfect for swimming or just lying under the sun. The view with the green hills around was stunning. That said, it’s not the best during low tide — the rocks and coral can make it tricky to get in the water. Also, there’s not much going on nearby in terms of shops or nightlife, and some areas can get a bit pricey because of the luxury resorts. Still, for a calm beach day with amazing views, I’d go back in a heartbeat.Guest review byAlex PKazakhstan - 10.0
Loved our room! It was very spacious, clean & comfortable.
Loved our room! It was very spacious, clean & comfortable. The bed and pillows met our expectations. The pool was huge! Great for children or grown ups. A very ambient, quiet resort set on the beach front. The beach chairs are very comfortable and the best place to chill with a book or take in the amazing views. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The location is very peaceful and we ordered a taxi or grab to go to dinner in the evening. We had drinks at the Hotel pub one evening. Overall a great stay & value for the rates. The breakfast was sufficient …eggs and fresh fruit/toast/pastries. Handy if you have a motor bike to get around the Island as grab is expensive. .Guest review byAnonymous
