Bodrum Old town has a massive water problem. Do not stay in the centre - the hotels and restaurants have water intermittently if at all. Does not make for a comfortable stay. Yalikavak is apparently one of the most expensive places in Turkey. We felt the prices don’t reflect the hotels and restaurants on offer. we stayed in two hotels in Yalikavak. Our first hotel La local did not reach the pictures and descriptions promised we-moved over to Nixie Beach hotel which was much cleaner prettier and friendlier. We learnt from a local prices have risen 50% in just one year .Communication can be difficult not strong in English speaking. Yalikavak is one hour from the airport costing £40 in English money. We took a taxi ride to Bodrum castle around £30 to catch a ferry to Kos pre booking 2 tickets with direct ferries €48 4pm reached Kos at 4.30pm. We booked a hotel with booking.com but couldn’t book whilst still in Turkey the site couldn’t allow it? There are plenty of sunbeds on the beach. Most of the bars have their own bit of beach and if you eat/drink something then the beds are free to use. The weather was lovely and breezy while we were there. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from and staff everywhere are very helpful and friendly. Loved staying at Mavi Suite; loved the boardwalk with restaurants and shops, especially at night. Bought some beautiful jewelry at Midwest Jewellery and a unique dress at Singuella boutique. I wish we had stayed in this neighborhood longer than one night as it was super lively and there were so many restaurants and other places to see. I would definitely recommend staying here if you're planning to visit Bodrum. I had late lunch at the OPA restaurant and the next day I got very very sick with severe diarrhea for 2 days my sodium and my potassium levels were under normal and I was dehydrated very badly! The Hotel did nothing at all telling me that the pharmacies were closed due to the weekend. This resort is very unsafe and dangerous when you have an emergency.
