We loved the raw beauty of the mountains, lakes and geologic features in the area. We didn't bring or rent bikes, but will the next time. An e-bike would be great for riding up to the Mammoth Lakes and touring the whole area. We will be back again, possibly during ski season as well.Guest review bySTEVENUnited States - 10.0
Very friendly town!
Very friendly town! Bishop is a great jumping off point for lots of activities in the area. We live close to SFO airport, so the 40 minute plane ride was a very easy way to get there (as opposed to 6 hours of driving). We rented a car and drove to Alabama Hills, Laws Railroad Museum and, best of all, Bishop Creek Canyon for the BEAUTIFUL fall colors!! Around town we went to the Fall Colors Car Show, antique stores and Schat's FANTASTIC Bakery! Bishop is a fascinating area geologically and historically - a part of California we did not know much about. Highly recommend a visit, particularly in the fall!!Guest review bySteveUnited States - 10.0

There's a McDonald's which is always good for feeding children at a reasonable price. There's a good Mexican restaurant in town with a very friendly waitress. The motion picture museum is well done. The Alabama hills are very interesting along with Mt Whitney.Guest review byunclexeres - 10.0
Lee Vining is a cool small town with a vintage vibe.
Lee Vining is a cool small town with a vintage vibe. It has a couple of great casual restaurants, shops with local Yosemite / Eastern Sierra themed merchandise, fishing/hiking gear and a gas station. It is the ultimate gateway stay for a trip into Yosemite National Park.Guest review bySandraUnited States - 10.0

We travelled out of Yosemite towards Lee Vining and travelling that little bit further north. That extra bit of driving was well worth the landscape and facilities of Bridgeport. Although small, had excellent facilities, restaurants, bars, shop and historical info. Felt totally safe there and it was only a fairly short drive back down to Mono Lake. Do stop at the viewing point on the way down for pictures and Bodie is definitely worth a stop if interested in the history of mine towns. It was better than others we have been to, like Calico near Barstow. Will need to engage the 4 wheel drive to negotiate the road though!Guest review byRichard BillingtonUnited Kingdom - 10.0
My husband had a great day of fly fishing.
My husband had a great day of fly fishing. I relaxed on the deck with a good book. There are so many things to do in the June Lake area. We did some sight seeing. We usually come to relax, swim and fish. We ate at the Tiger Bar for dinner and as usual, it was delicious! We hope to be back soon!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Great coffee shop in town, I think it was called Brewed Awakening, excellent coffee, food, and atmosphere. I had the fruity waffles which were super yummy! Big Pine is a great launching pad for the Ancient Bristlecone Pine forest, 4,000 year old trees just off the first exit off of 395 north!Guest review bySocorro ManUnited States - 4.0

Booked to stay in Independence as we wanted to visit Manzanar on our way south. But we wished we had gone further south to Lone Pine and then doubled back north in the morning as there was much more choice of accommodation in Lone Pine. Manzanar is worth visiting as is the Film Museum in Lone Pine.Guest review bymandk88United Kingdom - 2.0

We stayed at this hotel before when Sam the previous owner was there. Now it’s under new ownership. It’s was not the same. We booked two rooms. One of them didn’t have hot water. The ac didn’t work well since they use swamp coolers. The owner has been there for only a few months and I think he is overwhelmed. As far as the room himself, it needs new curtains the ones that we had wooden close right they were pretty old ann Cow webs all over the ceilings. It wasn’t very clean.Guest review bySamUnited States - 10.0

The last time I stayed in Mammoth Lakes/Old Mammoth was 20 years ago, and my, oh my, has the town changed significantly. From a very small, sleepy town to a hip-and-happening ski and sun [resort] town, Mammoth is beautiful and picturesque. . . where my family and I stayed was very quiet and serene. Note: if you stay closer by the main streets, you'll obviously hear vehicles zipping by. Personally, I like staying by the mountains where there are brooks and streams within walking distance. We arrived on the Sunday before Memorial Day and stayed a few days after. What a difference! Once the Monday/Memorial Day hit, all the weekend warriors left except for the locals. It was GREAT because we seemed to have the whole town to ourselves. . . biking, hiking, and a leisurely Yosemite road trip. What a great time we had! I highly recommend Mammoth and its surrounding areas.Guest review byPatricia N. B.United States
