Ingrid and the other ladies who work there were lovely and the chalet was comfy and had everything we needed, it was really nicely decorated too. It felt very quiet and private. Good location for Addo elephant park and other private game reserves.

JerseyThe location, the beautiful well equipped tent, the food and, most of all, the staff, especially our incredible guide Lenny who was so knowledgeable and really made our stay first class. He even managed to spot the elusive black rhino! The waterhole in front of the dining area is amazing and we saw warthogs and lions drinking there-mind blowing. We didn't want to leave this paradise on earth!

We were able to see four of the big five. The lodge is very luxurious. The size of the lodge meant we got excellent dedicated service - Bulela the guide is extremely knowledgeable and the drives were 10/10. Thando and Kesa on front of house are so friendly and the food was great. The property is newly renovated and the finishing touches / attention to detail complete the whole experience. We will be back!

The Lounge itself (we booked “Kichaka”) is impressive, here you will find everything that is needed for comfortable stay (beautiful luxury design, super wide terrace, pool, private pool with water heating system, 2 real fireplaces that you can enjoy after an evening safari or when it rains, bar, beautiful local wine, wide menu for all courses of the meal etc.). He even managed to insert us into the middle of the elephant herd...they were within touching distance. The Reserve is in magnificent countryside...Africa stretching to the horizon. We loved the little touches - the early morning tea, the coffee and drinks breaks during the game drives, the cold towels to refresh us when we arrived back from our drives - all were wonderful. The elephants coming to drink at the pool at the lodge was the high point of our stay....they stayed for over an hour and Jesse was able to explain to hierarchy of the families under the protection of the Bull elephant....fascinating. What a great place and the value for money is very good (especially comparing to other safaris). Staff is incredibly attentive, well organised and friendly. We felt at home immediately. Rob, our ranger was wonderful and made our time here special - he made us understand that it's not all about the big 5 but showed us so many other amazing animals and plants (even though we did manage to see the big 5). Such a treat to live almost alongside the animals (from a safe distance!) and to observe in natural surroundings. In the evening a romantic sunset dinner has been arranged at our accommodation. Andre did a great BBQ for us, it was a great night. The contact with the hostess before the arrival was also very good. The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. the room was large and when you came back after the second safari they had turned the lights on. folded down the beds and put the heating on. That is a really great touch from the staff. The Park Rangers were very good. We had Jessie and he was very informative and had a great sense of humour. We did an afternoon Giraffe walk through Bellevue Lodge and it was amazing - we were taken on a safari vehicle onto a game reserve and from there had to find the grazing giraffe. Once we spotted them, we drove close by and then got out of the vehicle to walk close (but not too close) to the giraffe to watch them eat their dinner. It was a lovely experience, and our guide Stephen was knowledgeable and friendly, answering all our questions. Old style of buildings but in the based in the nature. Super bedroom and in the morning all kind of animals where in front of your room. Also the Akmala Game reserve tour is highly recommendable because we saw so many wild animals (lions, rhino's, cheetahs, secretary bird,...) This was a new listing , and we were the first guests, LUCKY US!! The facilities offered are too many to mention. An updated kitchen with everything that opens and closes and more. Filter water on tap, a wine fridge, every spice that you can imagine. If you have forgotten anything at home, no stress they have it. A beautiful, clean, large family home. The beds are comfortable, shower pressure is great, wifi, dstv and views from every bedroom. Our host Larraine was wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. Amakhala Game Reserve is a haven for wild animals and a brilliant place for a safari. Many of the animals used to roam the land 100 years ago before the land was used for farming. In the early 2000's the land was returned to its natural habitat and the animals reintroduced, with the aim of conservation and breeding of endangered species. As it is in a malaria-free area, it is the perfect location for a safari for people who get bitten by mozzies! There were only a few jeeps out on drives at any time, so you rarely come across other people.
